Ann Arbor hotspots!

What are some must sees at Umich and around Ann Arbor? Should I check out the on campus museums? The fairy doors? What's your favorite Michigan landmark? :)

I thought the Museum of Natural History was pretty awesome and the art museum was interesting(and I’m not really into art). Walking through the Law Quad is always enjoyable. What are your interests?

Edited to add that both museums are free admission.

The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology has a pretty nice collection of classical antiquities.

Favorite hangout spots: the Law Quad is the loveliest spot on campus, and the Diag at the heart of Central Campus is also a great place for hanging out and people-watching. The Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market is fun & should have good local produce this time of year. The Nichols Arboretum (“The Arb”) is woodsy with some lovely walking trails. There are some nice outdoor cafes in downtown Ann Arbor, especially on Main Street. There are usually some good independent bookstores in Ann Arbor as well, but they tend to come and go pretty fast. I believe two new ones opened or are opening this year, but I’m not really up on the current roster.

Zingerman’s!

If you can time your visit on a football saturday, go to a game. There is nothing like it!

I second the Museum of Natural History and the Arboretum. The Ross building is really neat to walk around in and is a good place to just relax because it has a nice atmosphere (and a cafe).

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions! I will be a transfer student for fall 2013 and I don’t want to miss anything while I’m there. I’d also love some places to take friends and family when they visit :)

And yes, haha! I did get season tickets!

Men’s basketball at the newly refurbished Crisler Center is also a great atmosphere and a lot fo fun. Michigan also usually has a really good ice hockey team, but last year was a down year.

Comet Coffee in the Nickles Arcade just off State Street has some of the best coffee on the planet, and the Arcade itself is quite charming. Student hangout bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and other student-oriented businesses are mostly on State Street and South University (“South U”), both immediately adjacent to the Central Campus.

The bar where Illini fans like myself cheer after a win over Michigan :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:- well no, but it would be a cool place to see! Note to everyone else: I’m just having some fun and not intending to start a war on this forum.

Don’t worry PsychoDad! I’ve seen you on some other threads and I know you mean no harm :)

I mean no harm unlike others whose names will not be mentioned!

I never argue with a Psycho Dad 10. :-)

I like the Gallup Park; canoeing down the Huron River; Maya Lin’s Wave Field; Angelo’s raisin toast.

The Blind Pig in downtown Ann Arbor is a pretty good music venue. The Ark, now also in downtown Ann Arbor, is one of the top spots in the country for acoustic and folk music.

Chop House on Main Street has solid steaks.

Hill Auditorium has beautiful acoustics and has been beautifully maintained. Be sure to catch something there.

If you enjoy theater and music theater, you’re also in for a treat because you’ll find there’s always something on.

Be sure to check out an A2 classic since 1953, Krazy Jim’s Blimpy Burgers, located at the corner of Packard and…wait…never mind.

^^^^ :frowning: ^^^^

^^^Same for tea and cinnamon buns at Drake’s… :(

Has Ian’s Patisserie gone the same way? (Used to be across the street from Real Seafood Co.)

What about The Old German?
