ann arbor?

my parents and i are coming up for the accepted students day in a few weeks and i was wondering... what are some of the more popular student "spots" around town? where do students go out to eat, that sort of thing... i'd like to get a feel for the town rather than just the campus. thanks :)

just to let you know...the campus basically is the town...

don't worry it will be very obvious where to get good food.

Zingermans

State St. has a lot of student places. The Union is pretty popular. If you go farther North, you'll find the usual college town chains like Noodles and Company, Potbelly, Chipotle, etc... Also, a lot of students like to study and meet at the many Espresso Royales around campus.

If you're parents are paying for it, go to Zingerman's. However, I don't think you'll find many students eating there on their own dime (unless they're loaded.)

Za's is a popular and cheap Italian restaurant where a lot of students go. It's on East University in between South University and Hill Street. Another popular spot is Bubble Island on South University...try it out, especially if you have never had bubble tea before!

If you want something a little nicer, try Cottage Inn Restaurant on E. William, which is off of State Street. It is a nice sit-down Italian place with good food and moderate prices.

If you are hungry during breakfast or lunch hours, definitely go to Angelo's. They have amazing french toast and omelettes. Might want to google this one because it's a little hard to explain how to get there to someone not familiar to campus (though it's not far from campus at all).

State street is where all the good restaurants and stores are, and South University is where a lot of the bars and clubs are.

Yeah, I heard State Street is vibrant.

Nah, State has precious few good restaurants. It has a lot of crap that college students love (b-dubs, pot belly, noodles, whatever), but not very many good or great restaurants. And it has very few stores total.

Main street has a ton of nice restaurants, although some are very expensive. That's what parents are for though. And it also has some of the more interesting stores in Ann Arbor.
