I can't believe Ann Coulter went to Cornell. Almost makes me want to rescind my application! Nah just kidding. But what a blemish to Cornell's list of alumni.

attitude expressed there. one of the great attributes of the academy is tolerance of a variety of opinions and the quest for truth. you might not agree with her, but a doctrinaire, knee jerk "liberalism" is antithetical to the aims of education.

I'm thankful Janet Reno is a Cornell alum since it lets people see that not all Ivy women are ugly... Thank God that stereotype's been ended

among Cornell Alums....

Ann Coulter is balanced by Bill Maher.

Reno and Sandy Berger were in the Clinton Administration.

Stephen Hadley (took over for Condi Rice as National Security Advisor), Paul Wolfowitz, and Sam Bodman (newly appointed Sec of Energy) are all in the current Bush administration

Wharf

Vignesh Murali was another famous personality who graduated from COrnell......

oh wait I fastforwarded time by 10 years sorry ! :)

Totally hilarious Vig!

She also went to Michigan Law. She is a disgrace to both my institutions! Oh well, I guess she is a celebrity...after a fashion!

"Doctrinaire," "intolerant," and "knee-jerk" are terms more fairly applicable to to Ann Coulter than to any liberal who comes to mind.

which just reflects your own biases....it's amazing how people who promote tolerance for everything are immediately intolerant in extremis to those who have a conservative viewpoint; witness the moderator's unnecessary interjection of his/her own viewpoints in this discussion.

Nice try Corhacol. Unfortunately, I am not American, so I do not fall under your definition of "conservative" or "liberal". I am personally anti-abortion and pro death penality. I also happen to be a devout Catholic. So even if I were American, I would probably fall under the very superficial heading of "conservative". But it turns out that I have nothing against conservatives. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with ignorance and intolerance. There is a diference between being "conservative" and being a total ignoramus and a condescending person (which Ann Coulter happens to be.

"There is a diference between being "conservative" and being a total ignoramus and a condescending person"
.................well said!

Ann Coulter as a conservative is more akin to
Pee Wee Herman as a liberal

"I knew William F Buckley, and Ann Coulter you are no William F Buckley!"
.................................................................................Pee Wee Herman.

It's hardly intolerant to deplore the lady who yells "fire" in every public gathering she wiggles her way into.

"I'm thankful Janet Reno is a Cornell alum since it lets people see that not all Ivy women are ugly... Thank God that stereotype's been ended"

HAHAHAH LMAO! aw. poor lady.

There is nothing wrong with calling a bigot "doctrinaire," "intolerant," or "knee-jerk".

Corhacol,

You don't know enough about me to pass such judgments credibly. I may be a registered Democrat and a card-carrying member of the ACLU, but I am by no means "intolerant in extremis [let me assure that I'm not on my deathbed!] to those who have a conservative viewpoint." I've been a faithful reader of William F. Buckeley since 1971; I served as secretary of a county committee to re-elect his older brother to the U.S. Senate. I've held memberships in Young Americans for Freedom, and the Cornell Conservative Club. I regularly read the columns of David Brooks, George Will, Charles Krauthamer,Maureen Dowd, Pat Buchanan, and Jonah Goldberg. I've read hundreds of issues of National Review and Commentary magazine. I've attended speeches by Milton Freedman and Gerald Ford, and shaken hands with Russel Kirk.

But I have concluded that reading the puerile drivel Ann Coulter tries to pass off as conservative thought is an waste of time.

fair enough...i am not necessarily a "conservative" just an opponent of liberal hypocrisy that would find it acceptable to "float your boat" with concepts like it's okay to worship "the universe" but it's somehow unacceptable to be an evangelical Christian...and no defender of Ann Coulter, just a proponent of the Academy and freedom of speech and academic freedom....

I'm opposed in theory to hypothetical liberal hypocracy that says it's somehow unacceptable to be an evangelical Christian. I can't actually recall having actually encountered that sort of hypocrite, though, outside the fevered imaginations of those who expect the public to pick up the tab for their expressions of religious sentiment.

What's the problem with openly expressing one's convictions. I salute Ann Coulter or any person expressing his views. Even though I can't stand her books, I think she is a great beacon for certain ideas. I don't think we as humans can honestly call someone like Ann Coulter an "ignoramus." First of all, she graduated from a fine institution and from what I have heard and expect to see next year, Cornell is a melting pot of ideas that everyone is subjected to. So Coulter can't be ignorant of issues. She just doesn't believe in them. Second of all, do you guys actually know Ann? I'm guessing no. Aren't lefties supposed to be open-minded? God forbid someone stands up for what they believe in.

Hockeygenius, I have no problem with "conservatives". I am pretty old fashoned myself. But tolerance, politeness, composure and honesty are an integral poart of any intellect.

You Can Pile A Hundred Books On The Back Of A Donkey And, In The End, It Will Remain A Donkey

Hockeygen....

You don't seem to get the tenor of the slam. Most are not faulting her for her political ideas, they are generally objectively held and held by many; what people object to is the lack of class, erudition and civility.....you know like Chesterton, Mencken, Buckley, Goldwater, for god's sake even Buchanan.

She is a shrill deafening wack-job.

Since when are conservatives so sensitive to getting their ass-whooped? Buck-up! Take it like a man.
