Annapolis

Forgive me if you guys already mentioned this somewhere....I looked around and didn't see anything, and was suprised...but has no one on here seen previews for that new movie Annapolis? It looks absolutely sick. I only wish they would make one about the Air Force Academy....eh well, regardless, I know I'm going to go see it.

yeah there have been posts about it; some excited about it, other skeptical. i guess there are a lot of inaccuracies, but i for one can't WAIT to see it! i'm going the day it comes out! the trailer online is better than the one on tv, btw.

when is this film being released?

Jan 27. can't wait to see it. hope Hollywood won't screw it up.

hollywood definitely screwed it up...

We made a bigger deal about it than anyone else in the country. During break there were previews for movies coming out in May but "Annapolis" is just going to come and go.

the movie said 50,000 apply to Annapolis....is that for real?! Cuz i thought it would only be like 12,000

Yeah, 55,000 is way off. The only thing I can imagine - besides the fact that the script writer/s are clueless....is that this MAY be the total number of applications and application requests put out by the combined service academies.

Last year's numbers on USNA's page list just under 12,000 applications to USNA alone.

That is a good example of "literary license." Also they state USNA is the "toughest academy" which is highly subjective. But let's wait and see the movie to judge its merits. Unless you see it you can't hammer it.

surprisingly enough, Annapolis has NOT been advertised around here too much- don't know why that is, but the trailer was not even shown last week when I went to see Casanova, nor are there movie posters in the theaters (and this was a 10-movie mega place)...very dissapointing, as I was hoping to catch it! The release date is scheduled for 1/28 "nationwide," so we will have to see.

boss: you are right in that toughest is a matter of perspective; so to avoid a torrent of compares-and-contrasts, lets us parents agree that they are all tough, even though everyone knows Navy is toughest..."Go Navy- beat all of 'em!) ;)
(sorry- the DMMDI :) )

You would say that Navy! They are all tough is right. They showed the Annapolis trailer a lot this weekend on some of the sports channels...guess they're aiming for a male audience. You can check out the trailer here.

Thanks for the link- I betcha one look at James Franco will boost the female audience as well! I know I'm gonna watch!!!

My BGO sent me an email about Annapolis that was put out by USNA Alumni. it basically said that the navy, the naval academy, and the Department of Defense overall does not support the movie because it does not display the truth. it wasn't even filmed in annapolis b/c they couldn't compromise the film script. i'm still going to see it, but i would take any information on it with a grain of salt (or a whole spoonful)

I saw the trailer online. It looks pretty good! As an applicat to the AFA, i wounder if people from AFA and WP argue the line "The tougest military academy in the nation" :-P

Next movie they need to make: Colorado Springs. .... hmm. that just doesnt have a ring to it. West Point would sound cool but almost sound like a documentry.

The trailer has been on our tv stations alot. It looks like it will be a fun movie. The main characters name is Jake like my son. So, all of his friends at high school think its so cool and that my Jake must be a beast to want to go to Annapolis. So, "its all good"!

im pretty sure the 50,000 applicants refers to the number of people who request information about the academy and open a file. Ultimately, 12,000 complete the application.

i think most recognize that there will be a huge amount of literary license with this film- but hey, anything with the word "Annapolis" might be worth the 9 bucks to see! (and watching James Franco for 120 minutes or so looks as if it might be worth at least half of that, so not a total loss even if the rest of it is absolutely outrageous!)

Oregonmom, if your Jake looks anything like this Jake, best of luck warding off all those midhounds! Go Navy! ;)

Ward them off? Why would he do that?

LOL~ you are in more trouble then you think! I know this might constitute looking at things from a different persepective, but better get your hubby to stop tending to Jake's smile long enough to reinforce "the talk" again- and again- and again!!!! (Note: I am remaining absolutely SILENT on ideas for his boodle box! but the temptation is killing me!!!)
Jamzmom and Boss- feel absolutely free to chime in here!

By the way- congratulations on your daughter's engagement! I have to give you credit for balancing this along with planning a wedding!

they're playing the trailer on the sports channels during almost every commercial break. everyone at school is like "hey shawna, did you know there's a movie coming out about Annapolis?" then they ask if all the guys look like James Franco..... (i tell them that of COURSE they do! lol)
