Annika Scholars

Hey all,

Today I leave for Wash U on Discovery Weekend, with a travel grant :). They told me on the phone to be ready for an interview for the Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program. Can someone tell me ASAP the kind of questions they ask (please be as specific as posible!)? If there were any abstract question like “who are you?” or “why do you like school?” please let me know lol

thanks in advance

I don’t think that they interviewed for this during Discovery. You have to apply and then get invited to the interview. The interview was suppose to be with a student and low key. Sorry that you were given wrong info.

@goingnutsmom I actually did have an interview. It went great!

^ For the Rodriquez scholarship? There’s another thread that says the interviews for the scholarship are not until the application process has been done and the selected applicants invited back. I’m confused.

The interview you participated in was to assist in determining admission, not scholarship consideration. All students who attended were interviewed for admission. You are most likely associating the scholarship with the weekend because your invitation was based on your prospects for the scholarship. Rather than identifying Rodriguez scholars, WashU sought to get as many top students as possible interested in them so that they would have a solid pool to choose from for scholarships and admission.

^ OP, how is it that you thought an interview with a student was for the Rodriquez scholarship?

There was one list of students getting interviewed for admissions purposes and one list of students getting interviewed for Rodriguez purposes. my interviewer was a sophomore at WashU and a Rodriguez scholar. My personalized itinerary specifically said sholarship interview. I’m fairly confident it was for rodriguez, although im also sure I’ll have another interview (which is the one you’re all talking about) during “finalists weekend” (obviously if i become a finalist lol)

Ok, thanks for the info!

Confirmed what OP said about the two lists with a Rodriquez candidate. But she definitely got the impression that the interviews with the “Rods” was not evaluative. More like, that they tell you about the program and you can ask questions. So it’s not until you actually apply and get selected that it’s the heavy hitter interview. Good luck to all applying!
