Good morning everyone,
I was just wondering if announcing on CC that you were accepted at some universities will harm your chances at universities where decisions have not been released yet.
For example I got into College A and College B but I am still waiting for my decision in college C.
If the people in College C realize that I was accepted elsewhere will that kill my chances of getting admission there?
I think the admissions officer have more important things to do than scavenge through CC to find out where all the Tunisian applicants have been accepted.
Actually, it will start a bidding war and College C is more likely to give you a full merit scholarship to lure you away from Colleges A and B!
I am kidding. Almost EVERYBODY applies to multiple colleges. Most are accepted to more than one and have to make a choice. Colleges understand this and plan for it, accepting far more applicants than they have space for because they know a percentage of them will matriculate at other places. Good luck and welcome to N. America!
Colleges admit students independently. You think they’re out there monitoring the results of what students are posting? They have infinitely better things to do. Plus they KNOW that students they admit will be admitted by other unis as well. This is no surprise to them. You’re being paranoid.
If you are so worried about your anonymity being compromised because of your exotic citizenship, then why are you broadcasting to everyone here that you are from Tunisia?
Lesson learned, next time pick similar but relevant facts. Say your Algerian or something. Unless that changes the analysis significantly, you are posting in public after all. Still I doubt college officers have time to look at the emails you send them this week let alone check the internet. I might not announce it on your facebook page
A medium sized college will have something like 20,000 applicants per year. Out of those 20k, around 3,000 will be admitted. There is no way that an admissions officer would scour College Confidential (or even Facebook) to vet 3,000 kids. They don’t have the time or energy.
When you apply for a job employers might check your social media as part of their hiring process. However colleges simply don’t have the time for that kind of thing unless there is a specific reason for it.
