<p>I think it is interesting how close in price the top 50 colleges or so actually are. Rice is the only one substantially cheaper.</p>

<p>Of course, this list doesn't include financial aid of any kind. The actual costs for the average student will be much lower across the board.</p>
<p>Well, it probably feels like the dark ages to you, but it was in the 1960s, I believe.</p>
<p>Rice's no-tuition policy helped put it on the map early--it could get all kinds of great talent, even outside of TX and its region, interested in the place. And its reputation and quality has rightfully endured, even though it now charges $$.</p>
