Annual throwing down of the gauntlet

So, with M10 just a few short, anxiety-ridden days away I want to challenge everyone — parent or student — who has been an active poster on the forum this cycle to come back on M10 or M11 and report your BS admission results, regardless of how favorable/unfavorable.

While it might not be the kind of news you want to share (especially if you don’t have good news), I think it helps paint a more realistic picture for future cycles of applicants. If only the people who get great results post them, then it will appear that it is pretty darn simple to gain admission to a selective BS, all you have to is apply!.

No need to chime in to “pledge” that you will…just consider doing so. Soon enough, a thread related to the results will emerge. Try to use the one “official” thread to keep things easier for people to find.

Best of luck everyone.

is this the thread we should post to? or is there already a thread set up for this?

@Rathgar…some old timer (student or parent) will most likely start that thread closer to M10. This is NOT intended to be that threads.

In past years, there have been “results” threads started a bit too early, and what happens is that the first 2-3 pages become nothing but speculation and/or expressions of anxiety (similar to some recent threads).

This is not the thread. Usually, @SevenDad will create “The Official Master List of Prep School Decisions” with a format template for responding. If everyone uses that same thread and ONLY posts decisions (no editorials), then it is easy to watch the results come in. It doesn’t work at all if everyone posts on separate threads or enters extraneous chat.

@SevenDad – Are you up for this this year? I would volunteer but I’ll be traveling at the end of next week.

Usually, the thread is set up a day or two before and the moderator puts it up as a “sticky” at the top of the forum but keeps it closed until M10 to keep the thread clean.

You can search for the title I listed, just plug in the year, and you can see how it went in previous years.

@ChoatieMom: Did you not read between my lines and see I how I was trying to pawn that responsibility off on someone else this year? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ha! You can pass the torch when you leave CC. Not before. Where is Kalashnikov Kitty when you need it?

If you really don’t want to or can’t do it, @SevenDad, I’ll set it up on Tuesday and ask @skieurope to close and make it sticky. I just won’t be able to monitor it on Thursday.

@SevenDad loves doing it… :wink:

Subtlety doesn’t always work with this crowd.

@skieurope What are you trying to say?

lol

With a week to go before decision day and @cameo43 having created the 2017 Official Prep School Decisions thread, I thought this would be a good time to bump this thread from last cycle.

Best wishes to everyone awaiting decisions!

Good luck to everyone!

Yes, please post results, good or bad! There are quite a few schools that don’t get mentioned very often in the usual threads, yet people do apply to them. It is so helpful to see a little bit of data on those.

The gauntlet has been cast. And all challenges meant to step up and help others are good challenges indeed.

In the mean time: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-chances/1968462-its-time-to-stop-chancing-each-other-and-give-back-to-future-applicants.html

There will be many highs and lows tomorrow… and the excitement and anxiety will probably be off the charts.

Several years ago an accepted Andover kid told another Andover applicant ( still waiting for a package ) that " If you didn’t get your Andover package yet you got rejected " and then he wandered off and proceeded to gloat on every thread he could find. It was unseemly and hurtful- plus he had no way of knowing if that was even true.

The kid still waiting for his package said he was shellshocked and logged off. He never logged back on. I think about that kid every M10.

By all means CELEBRATE but have a heart, too. All the best and good luck.

Thanks @PhotographerMom for the kindness check. What a sad story.

And one more note, you would never know if the hurtful bragging kid was indeed a student admitted to Andover. This is the nature of an anonymous internet board. Take what you need and ignore everything else. In another words, don’t take it seriously, at all!

And just another good reminder: Not all good things come in a FedEx box. There are so many great opportunities in USPS mail, email, portals and phone calls.
