In the same way that the state is cutting 10-15% of the budget, UVA should cut 10-15% of their in-state population this upcoming year.

Clearly, wahoomb, the solution for would be for Virginia to cut its population by 10-15%.

from the 65-35 ratio, it should become 50-50 in-state, out-of-state, duh

Bringing the OOS/IS ratio to roughly 50/50 might not be the answer. With OOS cost of attendance somewhere between 35-40k per year, it is definitely more expensive to come from OOS, and that might translate into giving more aid to OOS students. Then you need to remember that there’s only so much in loans that can be put into a fin aid package and still uphold the general principles behind the ACCESS UVA program. It might actually force UVA to look at need when considering admissions, particularly OOS, and I feel like that would be detrimental to the University.

Yeah, my roommate qualified for work study for the first time in her four years here because they maxed out her loans!! Crazy. I know the dept I TA for is hurting… Very few TA positions being offered. I feel bad for the kids who are not going to have adequate course staff.

Does anyone else also feel financial aid was not as generous as last year?
