Hi how's everyone doing?

I just was wondering that since Academic Renewal erases substandard
grades in the computation for the overall GPA, does it also erase any unit credit for substandard grades with unit value like "D"s as well?

Yes, if you retake a course after getting a D in it you can use academic renewal to erase the old GPA points with the new.

Hi, I'm fine. Thanks for asking.

I did academic renewal during the 06-07 school year for an old semester from a long time ago (fall 98). I had like two F's, a W, and an A (w.t.f?). It wiped out the entire semester, including the A.

So, whatever semester(s) you do academic renewal for, it will erase ALL grades for that semester.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Thats not true , AR only will erase the class you retake. I don't know why they did your whole semester.

drifto,

You're confusing AR with someone getting a poor grade in a class and then retaking the class. That and AR are two different things. AR has nothing to do with retaking classes.

AR is designed to wipe out entire semesters at a time of old work (usually 2+ years old), where the grades in question are not an accurate indicator of what you are capable of as a student. If you do AR, it clears the entire semester. For example, when I AR'd fall 98, I couldn't just tell them I wanted the F's gone but to keep the A. If you do AR for a semester, any A's you earned in that semester will be gone too (that's what I was saying in my last post).

Anyone who is considering doing AR needs to look up their school's policy on it and make sure they meet all the requirements. I tried to AR two semesters from 98-99, but I only met the criteria for one of them.

Thanks for the reply edward04,

I know what academic renewal is and what it does, but I was just wondering does it also remove unit credit towards the 60 semester unit count minimum besides just removing the grade points off of the total GPA.

I remember that though "D" grades are still considered substandard grades and can almost never meet course credit requirements, it can still transfer as unit credit.
