I have only sent in SAT scores. The only time I took the ACT, I did not get a good score. I know that AFA takes the best scores for your math and CR (what’s the word???). Do they do that for the ACT? If they do, do they only include the English, Math, and Writing or do they also include the Science and Reading?

We're wondering a similar question, if you don't mind me adding onto your thread! My son has taken the ACT, and done well on it, and will be retaking it in a couple weeks. Should he take the SAT as well? Is one good set of scores enough or do they really like to see both tests? We're considering the March SAT date, but that doesn't give him a lot of time to prepare. We were thinking of having him take it but not having any scores sent until we saw what they were (and then paying the extra to send them at that point). In this part of the country, hardly anyone takes the SAT unless they're going to college out of state. Thanks for your help and sorry we couldn't be of much help!

On my application I have sent in both ACT scores (I also only took it once) and SAT scores. ALL scores show up on your application. For the ACT all 4 sections appear on the app (English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning). So yes, they include all scores, and if you have taken it multiple times they will take the best individual scores from each test setting.

I am from the west coast, where almost no one takes the ACT, and I just sent my SAT scores (I tried the ACT once because my older sister said it was easier, but it went very badly). Basically, you only need one or the other

Although it is only necessary to send in one test, it might be a wise choice to take the SAT also. Marceimi, I know your son has done well but, he might do even better on the SAT. It should not hurt your application if the SAT scores are lower based on how the Academy does the scoring process. Maybe the money to send the scores in could pay off.

ALO reply...

The academy will accept both sets of scores and will use their "machinations" to determine which test actually gives the candidate a better overall score. That is the test that will be used in compiling the overall composite score.

So send BOTH!

Thanks for the replies! I just finished registering him for the March SAT. I went to a local bookstore yesterday which was going out of business. Since (as I said) no one here takes the SAT, they had a bunch of 2009 SAT guides for 50% off, so I picked him up a couple to study and take practice exams, along with an AP Chem study guide!
