Another ADOCH Question

So, who else wants to arrive at the Providence airport at 4 pm and explore Providence for 4 hours before the welcoming address at 8 pm with me?

I can either choose a flight that arrives at 3:40 or one that arrives at 6. I’m not sure which to take, because I don’t know how long I’ll be willing to walk around Providence (alone) before that welcoming address. Will Brown have stuff available for us to do prior to the welcoming address?

I’m leaning towards the 3:40 arrival right now. (registration is from 4-10 pm, btw, so I guess I figure I’ll be one of the firsts to register, and then go off and disappear in the city for a few hours and be back in time for the welcoming address)

I'm definitely going earlier than 4. I'm driving myself, so I'l probably get there around 2 or 3, depending on when I leave. Anyone know anything about overnight parking in Providence?

if i'm in.... I'll be happy to join you!

if I was going, I totally would.... after all, that's pretty much what I did when I visited last fall, and it was tons of fun.

did you guys get another letter/more info about ADOCH?

Nope.

I was just trying to plan out the flight and stuff today.

yeah amor I'd totally be down for that if I get in... sound like fun. ;)

omg only 3 days!!!

yeah, amor, me too, if I get in. When will they give new students room mate information and what not? How is the public transportation in Providence? You guys think it's small and cool enough to just walk around?

Woooo that seems like fun - of course, pending for me because I'm Regular Decision

Dude, I'm definitely joining up if I get in. I guess all of us RD applicants will find out soon enough....

I would totally join. I am right now leaning towards either a 4:20 arrival or 1:30. I am not familiar with Brown as I am with my other high choice schools, so I need to tour around to get a feel for the place I could possibly spend the next 4 years or my life.

Whio that is a lot of stress, but totally thrilling.

We don't find out about roommates until August. Providence seeems like a pretty walkable place, if you don't mind the large hill.

August? Whoa, that gives us less than a month to coordinate who's bringing what. That really sucks.

Yeah. I hope I get a wealthy roommate, since I will be arriving basically as an international and will have to buy almost everything upon arrival, and it would help if my roommate brought, say, everything. I might go up to the Colgate dorms in a few weeks after the students move out and try to find a fridge or something someone left behind.

I've been wondering... how do you pronounce "ADOCH" aloud? Is it ad-OCH or a-DOCK or AD-och? or something else? Or do you just have to say "A Day On College Hill?"

I say "AY-dock" :)

I second that.

i just say "a day on college hill"

i'm getting there really early...like noon lol (bought my ticket sunday...yay!!!!)

oh well, i'm bringing a small suitcase so i'll just walk around campus or something until registrations.

Is there a link on the Brown website with info about this?

I don't really know anything about this program. lol Is just a thing for accepted students? I heard it's two days long?

"How is the public transportation in Providence? You guys think it's small and cool enough to just walk around?"

The public transportation is decent. Thayer is right on the central bus route, and Kennedy Plaza isn't far away at all. That's the area downtown where all of the busses are. There is no subway, but I'm sure you know that already. :)

Another thing is there is a commuter rail station right downtown near the Providence Place Mall where you can get a roundtrip ticket to Boston for $12.

But yea, there are some places you can go on foot.

Oh and there's a Whole Foods just off campus that has amazing sushi.
