Whole Foods is from my hometown, and just this past month they opened a new "flagship" store. I have become addicted, so at least I would be able to continue my addiction if I go to Brown.

That's so awesome. I love Whole Foods.

Except that it is mad expensive. Aren't college kids supposed to be poor? Maybe I can buy an organic strawberry if I get into Brown.

Ha, I'll be sticking to fast food - cheaper can be better, after all

Oh and there's a Whole Foods just off campus that has amazing sushi.

astroalex, you're amazing. You just said 2 of my favorite things in the same sentence. :)

Well, funkyspoon, I assume your interest in Brown has increased five-fold? haha

I live in Cranston and they're building a new Whole Foods right by my house! Too bad I won't be around by the time it's open.

I find it hard to believe some people are so concerned with the state of their foods that they pay exorbitant prices for so-called "organic" foods. BS.

What is hard to believe about it, and why is organic food BS? Have you ever been to a Whole Foods store?

Dudes, it is so redonculous. I was at Whole Foods once, and I saw half a pound of "organic" maccaroni for ten dollars. It is insane.

Wasting money on that is retarded, because the kind of people concerned with keeping unnatural pesticides, etc. out of their diets are the same kind of people who go tanning every other day.

You'll just end up getting melanoma by the time you're 30, may as well save some money buying perfectly fine foods that aren't grown with the finest horse dung from southern Cambodia. Same goes for mineral water.

Whoa whoa, amor, so many generalizations!

I'll speak for only myself: I've never been tanning before, and I slather on SPF 30 before I go out in the sun. I probably will get skin cancer, but that's because I'm so light-skinned. And that's just unfortunate. :(

As for Whole Foods, the truth is, I care a lot less about nutrition than I should. I just happen to think that organic food is tasty. And, yes, Whole Foods is really expensive, which is why I think I've shopped there twice before. A trip to Whole Foods is really a treat.

So to all you nutrition junkies out there -- If you want to eat healthier and also save money, avoid Whole Foods, cut out the junk food, and take your vitamins. End of lesson. takes bow Thank you, thank you.

I personally can never taste the difference between organic and not. Except I can taste the difference between store-bought meat (particularly beef) and beef bought locally. I figure though, if I can't tell the difference, I'm just going to buy the cheaper stuff.

The new Wendy's commercial is really funny though, so I'll stick to that lol

Where is this tanning story coming from? I don't see the line of thought at all, so I wouldn't go around making ridiculous blanket statements like that. :)

I like Whole Foods because the food is tasty, and you can tell a lot of effort goes into every aspect of the market. The generic supermarkets here pale in comparison and don't sell a lot of the same products.

Does Whole Foods sell free range beef?

I'm not sure, but here's some information from their website.

Central meat and poultry site: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/list_meat.html

I think it just tastes good and the fact that the food is healthy is a plus. To tell you guys the truth, I could care less if it's organic or not. A lot times the packages lie anyway. It turns out that the food is really only like 10% or 25% organic. Overall, for me, a trip to Whole Foods is like a luxury and I feel like a kid in a candy shop.

Ditto! My family only goes sporadically, most likely because the closest store is the one near the Brown campus, so we don't get an opportunity to go unless we're in the area. But that will all change this summer when they build the new store right by my house!

hmm, this is an old post but what the hell, I'll be in Providence on the 18th if you wanna do some exploring. Let me know...rory.merritt@gmail.com

I might go on the 18th and not stay for TWW. If I decide to do so, I'll let you know.
