Another annoying chances post, don't hate me please.

O so here goes... I would really like to apply here but I think applying is kindof a balancing act, I've already got a decent list of colleges includes reaches and safeties, etc. and the weird essays U of C likes will take me a really long time (I'm quite a slow writer, maybe a bit of a perfectionist).

Just to let u know, in my heart U of C is probably my first choice reach (I'm kinda the nerdy and weird person U of C seems to be known to hold), but since its also the biggest and most expensive one (ya I know there's aid but my family's middle class and I'm an only child, so prob not much) I think I have to be logical about what "out-of-my-league" schools I apply to.

I have a 4.65/5 unweighted and 5.23/5 weighted and I'm 40/587 ranked.

I go to Buffalo Grove School, its k but im pretty sure we're not super-special.

I took 4 APs junior yr, more than most people in my school I believe and really as many as I could. they were psych, english language, us history, calc ab (actually i dropped down from BC so my first semester grade was an ugly c but my second semester was an A). I got 5s on all my APs except a 4 in english.

this year im taking ap stats, ap gov, ap chem, and ap lit (and reg span 5). I think ive taken the most vigorous courseload possible except for calc ap and regular Spanish 5 instead of AP this yr. My school didnt offer aps to freshman or sophmores, just hnrs (and not always)

My ecs are Speech 3 yrs, major dedication to that I'd say (altho I'm worried my coach will go psycho on my recommendation for procrastinating with my sos junior year) and i did a lot of writing events there. I did debate freshman yr and now this yr (cause tournaments both run on saturday and practice is demanding, i sortof had to pick).

Interact community service club, was relay for life comittee and team member sophmore and hopefully this yr again, did a fundraising deal with one candy fundraising company that seemed to pay off well as far as how much money we got for the cause.

I have a tutoring job at a math and science center, k-college kids ive tutored actually. It's kinda irregular tho, business can be bad but i dunt get another job cause i really love this one, i never know when im gonna get called in to work. this year its pretty busy, i work like 10 hours a week.

Multicultural club 3 yrs, went to dc to discuss important issues, learn about politics, etc. Will apply for civic excellence award for that.

Am vollunteering on weekends at a community hospital now.

Am in SADD 4 yrs

SAT 1280/1400 and ACT 28. I know, bad. retaking the SAT third time (2nd time I forgot my calculator, so i dropped a little bit in math but readings the same.)

Be honest, but please don't just yell "No chance in hell!" lol. I just hope this reaally long chances post won't discourage replies. (oh, and don't worry I won't base my decision purely on a post, but i think it'd be helpful to get another opinion.)

O, and by the way I'd like to do something in education, so I'm also not sure if u of chicago will offer anything like that.

wow i feel stupid, the sat (math and reading) is out of 1600. lol. i got 640 on my writing by the wya.

please reply, once a put a post i go nuts checking until someone has answered, lol. Seriously tho, im a bit obsessive with check-ups.

Yes, it is annoying, especially with when you bump it every hour. Please waste your time here

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5</a></p>

The average SAT out of 1600 for Chicago is 1460. Your GPA is also a little low, but I think that, within a certain range, Chicago is less numbers-oriented than many other schools. If you get your SAT score up to the average, I'd say slight reach, but I'm a high school senior too, so you'd probably be better off with a parental opinion.

And if you post on the main Chances forum, be sure to give your thread an interesting title. Mention a school name, maybe throw in the name of an Ivy, perhaps mention your SAT score in the title... if you don't have an interesting title, you won't get many responses at all. Good luck on the SAT!

Don't worry about your SATs - Chicago doesn't care. You look like a fit to a slight reach to me, as long as you write your essays well and display your ECs on your application in an intelligent fashion.

I think I would also classify Chicago as a bit reachy for you, but not impossible. My best advice to you would be to pretend you are confident - even if you are not: your application will be the better for it.
