another annoying thread

well this might annoy some of but i need to know.
how bad would B- look on a high school transcprict and the rest were all A's
this will be in the first semister so would colleges like the great improvement i had by geting
an A note its an honor class so do id the B- worth 3 points or just 2.66 i need to know
i mean i dont care about harvard or anything, just like Usc,Ucla,UCB,Cornell, columbia, stanford, and maybe Yale(i like Yale Alot maybe just becuase of the name :b) so yeah and i live in california by the way so wouldnt UC's be easier for me then someone out of state

Not bad at all.

A B- is a B-, regardless of its rigor. Every school ranks honors courses differently–at my school, they get an extra point (so an A is a 5.0), but some schools don’t weight. However, this only affects your rank, which is so subjective school to school that colleges tend to use your transcript (ie each of your grades in each class) as a better indicator.

Keep in mind that all the schools you listed are almost as, or equally competitive with Harvard. UC’s would be easier in-state, but I’m not sure how much easier (I live in NC, and I doubt you could get into Carolina out-of-state with a B-, but in-state, you’d be a shoo-in, so I don’t know about the UC’s). However, do not consider any of the schools you listed easier to get into than Harvard! Summary: Will a B- hurt you? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No. Like everything else, it can be supplemented with excellent AP/SAT/ACT scores, recs, essays, and ECs.

For UCs, a B is a B is a B. Ie: A B- and B+ are the SAME THING (3.0). Kinda sucks, but whatevs. It’s really not a big deal. Of course if the class is AP or honors they give you an extra point, but only up to 8 semesters. Ie, there is no point in taking more than 4 APs and honors classes sophomore and junior year in regards to UC GPA. Of course they still look good.

will it show the minus on my hs transcript

It will show on your high school transcript. Colleges will decide how they choose to look at it.

As Blackroses said, UCs won’t differentiate between +'s and -'s.

but they will for the ivys ,stanford, usc? sorry about all the questions

I don’t know. Stanford doesn’t look at your freshman year at all.

For the rest, you’ll have to check their websites and look it up.

community college in the answer.

well its your answer but not mine hahaha :)

He’s just kidding:)

EDIT: Also, it won’t matter too much, no worries:)

well your right ive been reading a lot chace letter from students who want to get in and alot of them have gpa of 3.8uw and 3.7 and many people say they will get in. so i guess im good

^Get off the Chance Forum! I used to read them too; way too much unnecessary stress. Half the people there are ■■■■■■ anyways.

Yea. 3.7-3.8 is a really good zone. You’re totally fine.

yeah yeah
