So I have a 2350 SAT along with 800/790/770 SAT subjects, but I have a 3.64 unweighted GPA. I don't think I was lazy; rather, I took the hardest classes at a top 50 public high school. How does this look to top schools (especially top UCs), and is there anything I should, or could, do (explain bad grades, etc.)?

This is just like me! Well, I hope somebody replies to this.

2350 will guarantee you a spot in top UC. If your class rank is high, you are in the reach of ivy.

Wrong! 2350 will not guarantee you a spot in the top UCs. What is your UC GPA?

also send your weighted GPA and explain that you took hard classes

i have a 3.3 and 2300+. senior year aps are killing me.

any chance at top schools?

it really depends on the school itself. some schools put an emphasis on SAT scores, whereas others focus more on your GPA. you should check the schools’ expectations.

welcome to the club :)

It depends on your UC GPA. See last year thread.

how about a 3.855uw/4.18w, and a 2330 on sats with 800/760 sat 2s. Is my gpa still ok for a place like stanford assuming i have other neat stuff (Siemens semifinalist, National French contest national placer…)?

Do top ivies really place a huge emphasis on the SAT? I don’t mean OP’s GPA is low at all, but what about those who have high GPA, but just can’t concentrate on a test for 4 hours?
I’m just wondering because I have friends with high SATs but low (which really is not low, but like A-s) GPA at a mediocre school and they are applying to top ivies. What SAT score should one have before they think they can apply to and ivy?

By the way, taking hardest classes at a top school and getting a not so high GPA (your 3.64) is not bad…something like a 3.0 would be questionable.

Smaller schools tend to look more at you as a student, if you can write well and have good focused ECs, you could easily make it into top LACs. They spend a lot more time looking at you as a student.

UCs are more numbers based. Top private schools like Stanford and Ivies take a look at the whole picture.
