What plans do you guys recommend? I'm going to stick with Sprint considering verizon doesn't give you anything worthwhile nor does att. It's bearable I suppose. shrug

Texting I guess is a must. Is internet/e-main required?

from what i remember sprint will give you a lot of problems outside of central campus (place where classes are held)

VERIZON works everywhere...it's not a biggie if you dont have a fone...just leave your laptop ON with aim on it or have people call you at your campus dorm phone...

Ok i'm an insane phone user/texter/mobile internet crazy person. i never ditched ATT because of loyalty i guess and because of the phones (i hated verizon stuff). but at the end of the year (for various reasons involving other people that i would talk to who had verizon) i decided that i would switch but then found that verizon offers like no world plans and i travel a lot and need to use my phone everywhere...so i didn't do verizon.

BUT

if you don't have these troubles, and you don't mind the phones, GET VERIZON. literally one of the worst places for service for me on campus is donlon circle and donlon...and there is a verizon tower there. all over north (bauer et cetera) att like goes in and out and everywhere else too, but less so. i just like the phones and the plans and i can't get rid of att!! but if you don't care, GET VERIZON. it's worth it, trust me.

haha yea...that was one of the reasons that i wanted to get it...because SOME peoples' parents are stingy with my friends' minutes and they can't talk unlimitedly with non-verizon people!!!

If you can afford to switch I'd go with Verizon. I've been with them since high school b/c they're the only network that gets reception in my hometown and I've never not had reception here in Ithaca.

Leave your MSN on 24/7. This is the best way to communicate.

Why waste pennies on an iPod touch when you will have a laptop?

No one uses MSN in the states.

That is not the best way to communicate.

Laptop requires initialization time... which is inefficient

Really???!!! This is the first time I'm hearing this!!! What do people use? Yahoo Messenger?

It is efficient. And why waste monthly fee on plans that will cost extra?

Americans use AIM and more computer-knowledgeable people use Trillian/GAIM/Pidgin which allows you to use multiple IM clients (aim, msn, yahoo) all at once :)

another form of communication is facebook (email is less visual so that's a last resort among friends but first for professors/TAs)

Actually...telephones really are a good thing to have. I don't think the OP is a pre-med student and I don't know if he/she is planning to apply to graduate programs that require interviews...but in that case, most colleges will contact the student by phone to arrange this.

Besides...not everyone is online 24/7 and not everyone is a compulsive e-mail checker.

There are also pre-paid plans offered by some carriers...as well as trac fone. I really don't recommend not coming to school without a phone.

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SERVICE OTHER THAN VERIZON ANY WHERE IN ITHACA< YOU WILL BE SORRY.

I have Cingular and I want to kill myself everytime I want to make a phone call, I am praying til the day my contract ends.

Verizon has installed cell phone towers on multiple building on Cornell Campus. The service is excellent. Stay away froma nything other. you will regret it deeply. I pay 70 bucks a month for services I cant use.

Okay, so is AT&T good enough?? Which area that it doesn't have any reception? or weak reception? because I'm thinking to switch to AT&T.. Help please..

can anyone comment on t-mobile? because my dad went to the phone store today and the representative said that there was a t-mobile tower on campus.
