Hey I'm just wondering if these scores are passing:

pullups: 13
situps: 74
pushups: 75
mile: 7:12

Thanks in advance.

They may be passing for CFA purposes, but a 7:12 mile will surely put you on the verge of getting booted from WP. Luckily for you, cutting time at that pace is a total cake, even if you don't run daily. But believe me, you better start running.

hey aznarkarus, I know a cadet up at WP and he said my mile time at 724 was good and not to worry about it.

Probably because your time will drastically drop during beast. But you do want to save yourself the cramps in your stomach, don't you?

im sure hes gonna run man, as I am gonna run more than I was training for cfa. they are whole different ball games. Now I dont have to waste my time with that stupid basketball :)

Hmmm. a 7:24 mile time is not good. The APFT is actually 2 miles. Dont shoot for the minimum. If you intend to go attend USMA you should intend to be a leader in the Army. West Point officers are often expected by their troops to be great examples. Sure there will be people that do less and get by.

Dont do that. Be a great leader. Try to get your mile time under six minutes. Doing that will enable you to handle an adequate pace for twice the distance. Or better yet, go out for track and run distance. Going to practice every day will alone cause you to improve.

If you are going to plan on doing the minimum, please plan on going somwehere else. The acadamies arent easy. And they send people home for not meeting the minimum standard. So make good use of our tax dollars at the service academies.

Plan on inspiring your troops.

While I don't know whether or not all of those are passing (but they do look comparable to other CFA postings on this site from people that have gotten into West Point), I offer the following advice.

1) It's true that you shouldn't aim for the minimum. I didn't read your question as if that was your intent so I'm sure that's not an issue.
2) Your immediate goal, I'm sure, is to first get into West Point. From there you will have PLENTY of time to improve in all areas of physical development while at West Point and beyond. For example, while many New Cadets fail their first physical fitness test at Beast, almost all of them pass their record test at the end of Beast.
3) Start now in trying to improve in your athletic preparedness. All of the work you do now will help you during Beast and beyond. Note that there are plenty of hills at West Point so doing some hill work would be helpful. There are people that can run rather fast on the straights, but die on the hills.

Best of luck and keep working hard!!!!

I never said anything about aiming for the minimum....

So, so true.

Ugh stupid south jersey, the closest hills are hours away D;

Thanks everybody. And of course I'm not just shooting for the minimum. I used to run the mile under six when I do spring track, but I did the cfa during swim season, in which I had fallen out of shape running-wise, but swimming allowed me to get decent upper-body strength scores. I just hope swimming will help my overall person score.

^^^
When you start counting scores for every activity, push-up, point on the SAT/GPA, etc.--that's when you get caught up in the process. Don't worry about it so much, just do what you can and the rest will come naturally.

flyersboy114, stairs work just fine. :)

"flyersboy114, stairs work just fine."

nice, I have a set of stairs in my house : )

^
bleachers work too. Or take a road trip!

Ooo our football field has bleachers :D when I go to PA to my grandparents there are plenty of hills :D

It sounds like you are plenty motivated. I think you will do fine.
