so. do I have a chance at Pomona? I REALLY want to go, but I can't go for ED b/c of the money problem.

what are my safeties?

and should I list all the small details for awards [small math competition awards] and ECAs? I think it would be annoying to read the lists.

also, I'm thinking about starting a human rights club. maybe Amnesty International. I'm really into human rights and I want to be a doctor/activist, part of the reason why I want to go to a liberal arts college. But I feel like I'm loaded already........

Well, Pomona was ranked #2 in selectivity among all Liberal Arts Colleges last year by USNW. Harvey Mudd--another of the Claremont colleges--was ranked #1, so you picked a tough school to get into.

The average GPA for accepted students was 3.9 UW, with average SAT scores of 730/730/715 (2175). 21% of the admitted class in 2005 were valedictorians at their schools. The school got 5,054 applications and accepted 383 students. Strangely enough, 24% of all the students admitted did not speak English as their primary language at home, even though less than 5% of the students were from a foreign country.

As far as your chances, that 4.0 UW GPA is almost mandatory, your math SAT score is great, but the CR and W scores really hurt you--especially if your SAT IIs aren't great either. Your ACT overall score is right at the Pomona average. Personally, I think your ECs are better than you think--lots of multiculturalism, activity, and initiative shows through. You fit their profile as someone who comes from a non-English speaking language at home even though you live here in the US. Lots of tough courses speaks volumes for effort.

I think it will all come down to your essays and how much you can convince them of your interest in staying active in lots of efforts while in school (Pomona loves this--a dynamic active student who can also excel in the classroom). Right now you are pretty much 50-50 to get in--maybe 55% to get in, I'd say.

If you can retake the SATs or ACT and get a higher reading/writing score, do so. Moving that CR score up to 700 from 640 would help your chances tremendously. Also, stay on top of your grades--and make your essay shine--that's the only real advice I can give you.

Good luck to you.
