My S:

SAT: single sitting, 2130 (CR: 800, M: 610, W: 720)

GPA: 3.95 weighted out of 4.5 scale (this is his weakness. Math and science just kills him as you can see in this M section of the SAT)

His essays are terrific (his teachers were enthusiastic about how original and interesting they were).

His EC profile is outstanding: very focused and not a run of the mill collection of the usual suspects.

Has visited GWU multiple times. Took a pre college summer program there.

Though GWU is his #1 choice, there are some possibilities of financial incentives from other schools that might make ED less than a prudent choice.

I believe he has a good shot at ED. How about RD??? Is his GPA going to ruin his RD chance?

ROTC

GPA not too bad, MA SAT of 610 “OK”. Everything else is stellar. How about # of AP’s and scores? What about SAT Subj Tests? These could also help.

As is - given his motivation for attending GW, summer program, and his writing skills - I’d vote yes for ED and RD also.

CJ

3 APs in junior year. they don’t offer APs in sophomore in his high school. They also severely restrict junior APs in core subjects like Enligsh, History, etc. They screen students for AP class admittance, and allow only 6% or so. My son was included in these AP courses.

By the end of Senior year, he will have 6 APs and 5 honor classes. By the way, their courses are run by the year schedule. So, all AP and Honor courses are for entire year’s worth. Essentially, other than math and science, everything else is either AP or H whenever they are offered.

AP test: 4, 4, 5.

SAT II: US history: 780. I understand they don’t require them. I don’t think he will take another AP.

Also, they don’ weight APs heavily. As such, kids who are taking a lot of APs don’t really benefit a lot for the weighted average GPA.

So, what do you think of his chance for RD???

Thanks for your input and feedback. It is much appreciated.

Yes, whether ED or RD.

Continue to show interest, whether ED or RD. Good luck.
