ECs -
Assistant Manager working at my parents’ store over the summers for 4 years (really enjoyed this, wrote an essay about it)
Volunteer/internship at local free clinic
President of my school’s science club - we did the science olympiad, the envirothon, and a bunch of other small competitions
Ultimate Frisbee - just a regular club sport but I had a ton of fun with it
Public Relations officer for SGA - tons of volunteer work/coordinating school events
Vice President of NHS - organized various campaigns for our school
President of AVID Tutoring Program - tutored students twice a week and worked to recruit other tutors.
President/Founder of Debate Club - we met to discuss political issues (the 2016 election was a pretty great time for this club)

Schools I applied to:
UF (already got in - even if I get rejected everywhere else, I’m good b/c of this)
MIT (EA - got deferred - still my dream school)
Harvard (loved my application)
Princeton (loved my application)
Yale (hated my application)
Stanford (loved my application)
Brown (loved my application)
Duke (loved my application)
Caltech (hated my application)
Vanderbilt (meh)
Cornell (hated my application)

I applied for different majors at every school, but I put either math or chemical engineering for about half of them.

I wrote my commonapp essay about being an atheist and always feeling the need to keep quiet about it, and tied that in with the reason I created my school’s debate club (to give people the ability to speak/be heard)

For the obligatory “elaborate on an extracurricular” essay, I wrote about organizing tournaments at my parents’ store and my overall experience working over the summers.

Race: white
Gender: male
Income bracket: my EFC was in the low 40 thousands, but my parents have never told us how much money we make.

I get that most of these schools are a complete crapshoot, but I’m interested in seeing how accurate CCers can predict these. Chances are, I’ll end up going to UF (which I’m totally okay with), so really I’m just doing this for the sake of inquiry. I’ll post my actual results on this thread when they come back

Bump

honestly, nothing stands out, best shot at cornell or brown though for RD. If you applied Vandy early I’d say good shot there but RD is much tougher. I say Cornell bc it is easiest of your schools, and I say maybe at Brown bc of weak engineering program. Besides that, i don’t think you will get in anywhere.

@kjake2000 that’s exactly what I was thinking, actually (although I’m not too sure if I agree about brown, they’re pretty competitive)

Nothing really stands out BUT you have alot of substance to your application so thats pretty good. As long as your super detailed in your essays and tried to fluff up your application as much as possible I say you have a really good chance.

@lhw1998 Didn’t you say that you got rejected and were planning on appealing on the UF thread?

You haven’t really got anything with a total “wow factor” but your ECs seem substantive and you’re clearly a very intelligent person. Valedictorian Status/SAT II Scores will definitely give you a shot everywhere you applied but it’s a crapshoot so it’s hard to say. I’d guess rejection from HYP, you could maybe pull an acceptance from Brown/Vandy/Cornell. @PupuLovesPickles no, I just asked if students can appeal a rejection from honors

Rejected from Caltech

Hey everyone. This is my last time on this site
I got:
Waitlisted at Yale
Waitlisted at Brown
Waitlisted at Duke
Waitlisted at Vanderbilt
