Another Chance Me Thread

Dartmouth is my top pick thus far but I'm afraid that I might be right on the border.

Race: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: top
School Type: Public

SAT I: CR: 710 Math: 760 Writing: 720 Total: 2190
SAT II: 690s on 4 different tests, retaking in fall
ACT: 33
APs: 5 on Bio, 4 on Spanish

GPA 4.4 (out of 5 at my school) we don't have class ranking but I'm at least top 10%

Senior Year Courseload:
Honors English
AP Stat
AP Econ (micro + macro)
AP Psych
Honors Philosophy
Another History elective
(Finished Spanish/ language requirement Junior Year)

ECs

Sports:
Lettered 4 years for lacrosse, 3 for hockey, and 1 for golf (unfortunately no other significant recognitions)
NHS (11th, 12th- only years possible)
Key Club( 11th, 12th)
Business Club
Young Republicans

I've also played guitar for 8 years but I dont play in any group for the school or band outside of school so its probably irrelevant.

Work/Community Service/Volunteering

-3 months as ER Liaison at local hospital (volunteer work)
-Spending this summer volunteering at a city run sports camp in the inner city mentoring kids and teaching them sports
-Assorted volunteer service similar to service you would do for key club
-Only paid work is caddying at my local country club

Hooks: None really. I don't really have any real connections to the school and my race and socio-economic status isn't really going to help me. My parents know a few grads but we don't have any family connections.

Anyway I love everything about Dartmouth and I'm probably going to apply ED. Thanks in advance for responses and good luck to anyone else planning to apply.

Good chance for ED. send ACT not SAT and just focus on the SAT II’s. You should consider taking the literature subject test if you haven’t already.
What state are you from?

All I know about this I got from lurking for about 2 years. Your stats seem about in the middle or maybe a little less than the average for Dartmouth. ECs seem light. And you’re white…

Bump/ ACT vs. SAT Question

Which score should I send?
Combined SAT
CR 710
Math 760
Writhing 720

OR
ACT - Composite 33
English 35
Math 32
Reading 31…
Science 35
English/Writing- unknown right now

Update: I should also note that I am currently Vice President of the Ping Pong Club  quite an achievement, i know.
I also forgot to include that I’m from MA.

According to the various conversion tables out there, your ACT ans SAT are about equal. So it’s hard to say. Maybe someone has an idea of whether they are easier on one than the other. I have the vague impression that the ACT composite might be viewed less critically, but that may well be wrong. Try looking at D’s Common Data Set for a more detailed idea of where your scores fall. Or send both.

You really need better SATIIs-- in the upper 700s would help.

I tend to agree with gekkoman, but your never know. Good luck in any case. Let your sense of humor shine through. :)

Regarding the SAT IIs I’m taking math II and bio m on 10/9 and I’ve been studying pretty hard and I expect to do well
