Essays should be unique, Interview should go well, but no legacy/recruited athlete

I just want to know if it's worth it to apply, or if I have no chance completely. Give me an honest opinion, guys! Thanks :)

Harvard’s a crapshoot, but you’ve got just as good a chance as any(:

Your stats would put you in a good place (Past 2250 SAT/SAT2 don’t matter) --but see, there are a lot more valedictorians (etc…) that they can fill in all classes. Because of this, they look for how interesting you are. Work on your essay! Be interesting. That’s it. And Harvard’s admission really isn’t random. They pick the most amazing people–people anyone would want to know. To answer your question, you should apply.

Are you recruitable for swimming at the college level? If your times are competitive with women on the swim roster (gocrimson dot com), and you are interested in competing at the Div. I level, well, with your academic stats, you would be verry attractive to Ivy coaches.

You still have a great profile, but athletics would be a strong hook. Good luck.

With classes/grades like that, how are you only 2nd? O.o

I really don’t want to swim in college, I don’t like it much. haha
I’m only second cuz the first place person takes the easiest classes ever and therefore gets all A+s.
Thanks for the advice guys!
Keep them coming :)

i think you have a decent chance, but what do you plan on majoring in? Your ec’s seem to be all over the place.

I would urge you to cast a wide net. My S got into Harvard with stats that weren’t as strong as yours, but, as the other posters have noted, beyond a certain point it’s a crapshoot. Your stats are very impressive and will clearly get you into a topflight school. Don’t just focus on the Ivies, but also take a look at some of the top LACs, e.g., Williams, Amherst, Swat, etc. In terms of both academic reputation and financial aid, all three of those schools are on a par with the Ivies.

Great stats, but it just ends there… No offense, but your profile just looks like any other Ivy League bait application (2300+ SATs, multiple perfect AP exams, multiple high SAT II scores, varsity swimming, chemistry olympics etc.). I mean, don’t get me wrong, I think you have a great chance at getting in, but your profile just seems really… boring.

Why are people so mean? This isn’t “boring” and “the only good thing is the stats.” (Especially to the second part: ??!) I honestly can’t respond to anyone who thinks a lot of national awards in multiple fields/an essay placing 10 out of 24,000 is below par. Except possibly to assume that he didn’t read it.

That said, if this is a copy-paste copy of your resume, make sure to spell it “Being an American,” not “Being and American.” (I would assume.)

How could you possibly think you have “no chance completely”?

So you’re telling me that you achieved all this, and you really DON’T HAVE A CLUE as to whether you can get in or not?

Everything looks great. Solid jump from Algebra to Calculus BC sophomore year, haha. Just curious, did you pursue the AMC/AIME/USAMO route, or just the ARML one?

o.O well, i feel like everyone else who applies to Harvard has wayyy better apps that I do right now, so yeah, I don’t really know if I had a chance (I actually thought it was sort of boring, as someone above said…) but thanks for your opinions! and thanks exultationsy, you made me feel better haha.
I tried taking the AMC 12 this year and got a migraine halfway through and had to stop haha. Great timing. Anyway, I feel like I probably wouldn’t do that well on the AMCs anyway cuz the part I did do I didn’t feel too great about lol.
No idea what my major is gonna be in … I am REALLY undecided cuz I don’t really love anything more than anything else.
So the general consensus is that I should apply because it’s a crapshoot?
Keep them coming!

Bumpppppp.

Your stats are great and you have really solid ECs. You can probably do something more “fun” this summer, something that can add a “personal flavor” to your resume.

Continuing to excel at your current extracurricular interests this summer is probably a much wiser call than going and doing something out-of-left-field and “fun.” Use your essays to differentiate yourself. My theory is that you want to use them to demonstrate why you’d be interesting and fun as an addition to the freshman class. (Rather than, say, trying to prove you have the intellectual cred by basically repeating your resume.) And I assume your teachers and guidance counselors know you well enough to write good recommendations? If not, get on that as soon as school starts.
