So my question is, what are some target/semi-target schools i should i apply to next year? as of now i'm looking mainly at UVa but i want to explore my choices and if i dont get in there i need somewhere else to go to. thoughts? questions? comments? thanks everyone!

What is your unweighted GPA? Also I would highly consider retaking the SAT in October because it will help immensely if you can raise your SAT to 2200+.

With your current stats I would look at:
Boston College (Carroll)
Cal (Haas)
Emory (Goizueta)
Michigan (Ross)
Georgetown (McDonough)
NYU (Stern)
UCLA (Bus Econ)
USC (Marshall)
UVA (McIntire)

If you were to raise your SAT to around 2200 I would highly consider looking at UChicago, Duke, Vandy, Northwestern, and a few lower Ivies.

UW is fairly low, at about 3.7 with all honors, 4 APs.

I like that list, though I would steer clear of Cal/UCLA unless you are a CA resident.

Even with my fairly low GPA/SAT?

BUMP!
Some new info, GPA lowered to about 4.025, president of NHS, teaching tennis over the summer, summer internship at consulting firm in Vienna, VA and internship at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in NY, SAT up to 2190. What are some schools that I could look at that are a tad less selective than UVA? Living in NoVa doesn’t make is easy so I am looking for some back ups, hopefully some target or semi-target schools for internships and whatnot. Thanks!

What kind of job did you get at PwC? It’s competitive enough for kids at chools like UVA

My cousin is a partner at PwC and he let me go over the summer to just file papers, look around and see what happens, not an actually internship (not paid or anything). Any other schools I should be looking at? He told me to look into Wake Forest, URichmond, Fordham and Washington&Lee since I have higher chance for getting into those. How do those schools match up, what are my chance and how difficult will it be to break into ib from those kinds of schools?

Based on your updated GPA/SAT/internship exp:

If I were you I would look at all semi-targets/targets and see which ones you could apply to EA. From what I know:
Boston College - EA
Michigan - EA
Georgetown - EA (might be restrictive)
Emory - EDI/EDII
NYU - EDI/EDII
USC - apply early for scholarships
UVA - EA

All 4 are non-targets, but I ranked them anyways:

 1. Fordham (just b.c it’s in NYC…Bronx)
 2. Wake Forest
 3. URichmond
 4. Washington&Lee

I’ve actually encountered more people from URichmond than Wake, but overall Wake’s bschool is upcoming IMO.

If you want you can also apply to some safeties EA.

Thanks, AvidStudent. Could you explain the reach/match system to me? I’m feeling a bit nervous about those schools to be honest, all of them are great schools and my statistics aren’t too great. Obviously I’ll apply and have faith, I just want to have some other schools that are just the slightest bit lower than schools listed that I may have a greater chance of getting into, you know? I could most likely get into those 4 non-target schools but they are non-targets, which may not be as beneficial as applying to schools of similar stature that are targets or semi-targets. Boston College and UVa are my top 2 right now but they are pretty competitive schools. Are there any schools that have business programs/are target/semi-target schools that are maybe a tad easier to get into with my statistics? Thanks so much, everyone!

And how’s Villanova?

Trust me apply EA to the above mentioned schools. You might as well add in Villanova, Bentley and Babson as backups. (You can apply to all three of these EA). Every all three of them send a few to BBs.

What does applying Early Action do to admissions? I heard that it doesn’t really help, and I’d like to get my GPA/SAT scores up in the fall before applying, what do you think? Thanks, AvidStudent!

Applying EA doesn’t really help with admissions, but for example say you get into Boston College you wouldn’t have to apply to a lesser ranked school, less exposure to IB recruiting, for the regular admissions cycle.

I’m taking 6 APs next year, 4 of them are literally guaranteed A’s (the teachers wanna help out in college admissions), wouldn’t it be better to lift up my low GPA and apply with a new GPA into regular admissions? Plus, I’ll be able to fit in 2 more SATs, hopefully raising my scores. Sorry if it seems like I’m running in circles with this, I just really want to put myself in the best possible position to break into iBanking. Obviously, it isn’t purely what school you go to but it is suuuper important. Thanks so much again!

I assume you’re instate for UVA? So apply there EA, and apply to BC EA AT same time (I think BC is not restrictive). Gtown EA is restrictive and anyway you will need to be a straight A student for their EA. Also apply to UMich if they still have rolling, if not then just plain EA, as well as UNC EA. Chances are you should get in one of these or at very least get deferred. If you get deferred then you can show them your higher SAT scores, improved gpa.
Dont miss an opportunity for an EA, while banking on a higher score - that higher score may not happen. If you are afraid to take a chance on UVA (which is your top college realistically with current gpa/sat) then apply ED to Richmond (while applying to all the EAs). However if you get in you are stuck.

Fantastic advice, mhmm. Well, here’s another problem. I just got my transcript and I noticed that my GPA dropped a lot more than expected. As or right now it is a 4.004W, I think I miss calculated it but this is a toughy, I’m not sure if this GPA will cut it for UVA, even though I’m instate with fantastic extracurics, rigorous courseload, etc. What do you all think?

I dont really have an opinion based on the fact that I dont understand the weighted structure. If your unweighted is about 3.7 then you should be good.

If I were forced to choose between Villanova, Fordham, and URichmond (or schools similar) which would you choose?

Richmond hands down
