I'm a junior who's absolutely in love with Wellesley. I visited it last summer and again this spring, and I feel like it's basically a perfect match for me. Now I just need to get in! Any suggestions/chances are appreciated.

STATS:
I attend a highly selective private school in California (about 25% of everyone goes to an Ivy or Stanford). My mom attended Wellesley, so I'm a legacy.

GPA: 3.5/4.0 Unweighted (I had a hard time freshman year. My 1st semester GPA was around 2.9. Last semester, my GPA was 3.9. BIG improvement) Rank: around 40/100 now, could be around 35/100 by Senior year Courses: Only AP this year is APUSH (standard for my school). Next year I'll take AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP Econ. Recommendations: 1 Great, 1 Good. Also, my counselor rec will be great.

SAT: 2310 (730CR, 780M, 800W) SAT2: I haven't taken them yet, but I'll take Math 2 and US History. I expect to do well.

*Extracurriculars: *
- A LOT of community service (about 200 hours this year alone). I tutor a lot, intern at an organization that provides free legal aid, am a peer advisor and have organized and managed a lot of fund-raising activities. I really love the projects I do, and can write and talk a lot about them.
- Varsity Field Hockey and Lacrosse (I won't play in college)
- Art - Sclupture and Ceramics
- I'm really interested in legal studies (I want to major in political science), and have taken a lot of extra courses
- This summer, I'll be interning with a congressman in Washington DC.

Being a legacy, one would guess you'd be in. Your GPA is a bit low, you could work on more leadership activity, but otherwise, you'll probably do fine.

However, at the admitted students' days, the admissions director told us the current year was a tough one for admissions, and it's expected to be very competitive next year, too.

Pick a couple of safeties, just so you end up with a choice. Good luck - Wellesley's great!

I'm not an admissions officer so I really can't speak of your chances of getting in. Your GPA is a bit low but your extracurriculars really seem to make up for that. In your application, I would emphasize your extracurricular activities because they are quite impressive! I certainly didn't do an internship in high school, let alone one with a congressman in DC. Also, sending in photos/slides of your art work couldn't hurt either. Good luck! Wellesley looks for well-roundedness, so even if one area is lacking, they hollistically look at the individual.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be too concerned about your GPA. Even if you had a rough freshman year, the most important thing is how you've improved and done very well in your later years. Most likely, your counselor rec will comment about this, which will be in your favor. Just be sure that you demonstrate that you're taking advantage of the most challenging courses your high school has to offer. Your EC look great, but so will a lot of other applicants'. Your essay is where you'll get a chance to stand apart. Be sure to highlight what makes you uniquely you.
