Another Chance Thread

I know there are a lot of these but I after reading a few I have become increasingly neurotic.

Ill try to provide as much info as I have...

4.0 Weighted 10-12 GPA w.o senior year. I think the unweighted is like 3.9 or something.
32 on ACT
650 SAT II Math
680 SAT II Spanish

Taken a pretty vigourous schedule. No APs other than this year but lots of honors classes. High school is pretty good especially for the area (so cal), but doesn't do rankings.

I applied to the Weinberg School ED.

Not gonna put up the whole list of extra curriculurs but they were nothing special. Did some community service and sports and stuff like that but nothing extraordinary.

I thought my essays were really good as well.

Any thoughts...

Everything is within range, so it's hard to judge without the EC's/ awards... GPA looks good, ACT isn't "oh wow", but it is definately in the range. Hard to judge, just depends on who's applying unfortunately. :/

Academically, I definately think you have a good shot.

Thats what I gathered from the rest of the threads. Do they put a lot of emphasis on the essays?

ALOT- from what I've heard, an essay can make or break a good applicant at NU.

I'm ED WCAS as well...

Well hopefully mine are up to standard.

Hopefully we both get in. I wish you luck. Would you say you are better qualified than I am? Just curious.

I wouldn't know, lol. You have a better uw GPA than me and our scores converted are relatively similiar. I'm hoping essays, visits and ECs tip the scale for me because academically I'm 50/50.

Hope we both get in too.

Purely out of curiosity, what's your rank?

School doesn't do it.

Without it do you have an opinion either way?

Oh. Sorry.
I totally missed your "school doesn't rank" part in the original post.
I'm just going to assume that it's high since you mentioned your schedule was rigorous.
I'm not a good chancer since I'm a 09er, EDer.

However, I will say that you have an average chance. 50/50. It will probably come down to your essay and how your personality is reflected through the application as a whole. And, probably the admission officer's mood (T_T I'm always paranoid about this...what if they had a bad day? Ahhh~~!)

Ya thats sort of what I assumed. I am not overwhelming but certainly in the range of something they might accept...i think?

I think as others have said it comes down a lot to who else applies, which is frightening.

Applying ED also helps your chances significantly, especially in this economic crisis.
Then again, ED rates are up 15% this year...ugh

Im not really sure what you mean by that? Is that for Northwestern?

There was a huge boost in ED applicants this year which hurts all of our chances. ><

Yes. That's for Northwestern.
They received 15% more ED applicants than last year, roughly 300.
Well uh.
I think we'd be far worse off if we applied RD...
I can't even begin to imagine how many people will be applying to Northwester via Regular Decision this year.
Things will get so competitive...

Hopefully most of those people are applying to things other than the WCAS.

...doubtful xD
WCAS IS the largest school with the most variety of majors, so it would make sense that more applied there.
Then again, I could be wrong.
I just hope they didn't apply to SoC T_T

Well, although unintentional you have seriously decreased any remaining confidence/optimism I had.. :)

Gah.
D:
Now I feel bad.
I said you had a good 50/50 chance, let's just hope the additional 300 students have an average 2.0 gpa?

For EDers, these chance-me threads are getting progressively funnier every time i think about the fact that 100000 people could tell you YOU FOR SURE GOT IN and you could still get deferred/rejected. or the other way around. we could all say YOU SUCK and you could still get accepted.

OUR FATES ARE ALREADY DECIDED shudder so don't worry be happy:) for the next 5-6 days at least before our decisions come out.
