Schools- Ivies, Stanford, Northwestern, UF, Duke, Georgetown, MIT

unrealistic expectations. lol AMC participant as EC

Are they really unrealistic?? We get top 10 into ivy/ivylike every year… Plus, I’m working on my essay now. Its not good enough yet, but it’s getting there.

Oh I forgot to say that I placed 3rd in the state at the Math Olympics. It’s a college math competition from colleges all around the state. I competed with the CC I took my math classes at.

Your numbers are little low but I don’t think you’re too far off.

Your gpa doesn’t match up well with your AP scores…
Lang and art history are supposed to be some of the easiest ones (most students with C’s in those classes at my school get 5’s on the AP)
and you should definitely retake the ACT; you also need at least 2 SAT 2’s for the lower Ivies and 3 for HPY and Georgetown

Ivies: all mid-high reaches
Stanford: high reach
Georgetown: mid reach
Duke: mid reach
Northwestern: mid reach
UF: match
MIT: high reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735819-i-cant-believe-im-actually-doing-but.html</a></p>

I agree your GPA and test scores are definitely on the low side for the Ivies and other top schools. Your ECs are good if a bit scattered but they show passion for math and volunteer work, so bravo there…but I think your test scores will hold you back
For the most part I agree with bobdylan, they’re all going to be mid to high reaches (esp Ivies/Stanford/MIT) except for UF, which I’m guessing is your safety school

Chance me back if you have time? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736548-chance-me-top-schools-ivies.html</a></p>

thanks for the replies so far. I agree with the reaches, but it’s been my dream for ivy so i’m not gonna give up! lol. My school sends about 20-30 to ivies and other top schools every year. hopefully im one of those. For my AP scores, it was my schools fault! lol. my school didn’t order my AP exams (they forgot!) so I took all 5 in 3 days. One of these days was on the same day as my brother’s graduation and I missed his val speech (statistics and US govt. same ones I’ve gotten 3s on).

I can’t comment on your ACT scores because I know nothing about that test haha sorry >.< But your GPA is pretty good~ You’ve got quite a few math-related ECs and accomplishments and thats a plus~
I don’t agree that all the ivies are reaches though… Theres quite a big difference between the ivies.

Ivies: low-ish reaches/high matches – Cornell/Brown/UPenn. The others are reaches tho
Stanford: Reach
Northwestern: low reach/high match
UF: don’t know, sorry hehe
Duke: Reach
Georgetown: Good chance
MIT: High Reach

thanks or the responses!! bumpp :)
