Oh, Asian Male, Michigan, somewhat competitive high school

JHU: match
NW: match
WSL: match
Harvard: coin flip
Princeton: Coin flip
CWR: safe match
Mich: safe match
Brown: coin clip

i haven't applied ED to any schools
what do u think in terms of the programs that i applied to
HPME, etc?

Well HPME is very tough..2003's stats i think...

HPME Admitted Student Profile:
Top 1% of high school class
SAT 1 verbal 760
SAT 1 math 775
ACT composite 34
SAT II Chem. 765
SAT II Writing 750
SAT II Math 2C 785

Application Information:
Approximately 900-1000 sent inquiry cards
Approximately 700 received supplemental application
90% of applicants completed the supplemental application.
140 applicants were invited to interview
Approximately 60 students were offered admission to fill 50 spaces.

But you are definately a match still

Sorry I forgot to check your major...so here is revised chances based on impacted majors

JHU: match
NW: match
WSL: match
Harvard: coin flip
Princeton: Coin flip
CWR: safe match
Mich: safe match
Brown: coin clip

and Brown?

if you can get that sat up to 2250 you will be absoutely perfect.

brown would be a sort of half and half

cus i know Brown's interview went REALLY well

OH! and the intended major is biology/mathematics
possibly double major, but def. bio for premed track

lets review your stats bit by bit..

GPA: perfect

SAT: slightly weak...

SAT 2 : very strong

Recommendations: perfect

essays: according to you, i think that looks pretty awesome too

EC: quite strong....not exactly a hook but certainly seems competitive

you would definately get into at least one if not quite a few of those colleges (excluding mich and cw..those are quite safe)

that's cool

I got waitlisted and eventually rejected at WashU and your credentials are much better than what I had. . . so I would say you have an above-average chance there. I would think that UMichigan is a shoe-in by virtue of you being from that state and having such an impressive high school record. Northwestern and JHU are probably both slightly better chances than WashU-- I think they take about a third of their applicants while WashU only takes about a fifth. . .

As for the Ivy League schools, I would say that you are just one of many thousands of extremely accomplished, over-achieving Asian pre-meds that they get every year. Congrats on making Valedictorian, but just know that a really high class rank probably won't impress too many people at these schools because they also reject hundreds of Valedictorians. At this level of competition, they are a dime a dozen.

All I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't bet your life on any of those places because, at first glance, you don't really look that different from every other applicant they will have. BTW, the #2 ranked student in my senior class got rejected outright at Princeton and with numbers quite similar to yours. (He got into Wesleyan and Bowdoin, though.)

Don't really know anything about Case Western, but I am positive that they aren't as competitive as the Ivy League, JHU, or WashU.

It sounds like you are aiming for an eventual M.D. so I guess that is why you are looking at WashU and Johns Hopkins. Good luck with that-I hear it's intense stuff, but we need doctors.

Conclusion: WashU--- decent chance (40-50%)
Northwestern--- slightly better chance (55%-ish)
Johns Hopkins--- roughly the same
Case Western/Michigan--- you'll get in (maybe some $ too)
Harvard/Princeton/Brown--- Don't hold your breath.

That last part may sound disheartening or cold, but it is reality. You have obviously worked incredibly hard in HS and have a very impressive record to show for it. Still, I think you would be an average student at Harvard, Princeton, or Brown and so cannot expect an above-average chance of acceptance. Maybe if you had more experiences like your two-week stint in India. . . While you have this one unusual and impressive credential, it might not be enough. There will be other applicants who have done research at the Smithsonian (like my cousin who got into Stanford), the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, etc. Just keep that it mind.

Also, know that the typical acceptance rates can sometimes be funny. A very impressive Nigerian student (with numbers similar to your own) at my school was rejected at Vanderbilt (acceptance rate hovering around 40%) but accepted at Dartmouth (more like 20%). Who knows? Maybe you will get into Princeton but not Hopkins. . . Regardless, I think you will have your pick of at least two prestigeous universities.

Best of luck to you!

WOW...I was thinking the same thing with the Ivy leagues, you never know with them, but THANKS for the honest appraisal!!!

do u know when we find out info from case for ppsp
