Another "Chances?" Thread

Ya, I know, there are too many of these - I'm sorry.

Cornell is definitely a reach for me, I just want to know by how much. I'd be applying RD.

I live in MA and come from a VERY respected public HS.

SATs
- Old - 700 Math + 630 CR = 1330
- New - 760 Math + 630 CR + 630 Writing = 2020
---Note: I got a stinkin' 7 on the essay, which REALLY annoys me; 67/80 on MCs though, which I'm proud of! =D esp. since I suck at the English portion of those things to begin with.

GPA (No class rank)
3.69-ish / 4 (UW)
3.92 / 5 (W)
Based on Weighted GPA I'm in about top 16% of class.

APs
Chem - 5 (EVERYONE - all 40-some odd - kids in my class got 5s. I got a B- in the class and even I thought the AP was easy! lol)

APs to take this year:
AB Calc
Psych
Comp Sci (Java)
Physics (not an AP class, but taking it anyway)

I'm auditing a Euro History course, which means I come, I listen, I participate, but I don't take tests and I don't get a grade. I just want to learn the stuff without the pressure of the class.

ECs

Speech and Debate Team
- We're one of the best teams in the state, and it's one of the toughest states in the country. We have over 100 kids on the team!! =D
- Enthusiastic and active member (9 - 11), Captain (12)
- Won several various awards at various tournaments
- Went to Nationals last year in "Dramatic Presentation" with a Gollum piece.
- This team is literally my life. I'm afterschool on Mondays and Fridays helping kids practice until as late as 7 (that's 4.5 hours). SO AWESOME! =D Sorry, i'm getting too excited... moving on...

Ass. Coach to Junior High Speech Team

Writer and Occasional layout editor for the School Newspaper.

Recycling club
- Member 10 - 11. Co-Director 12.
- Comm. service hours (1+/week)

NHS, National Merit whatsit (semi-finalist? whatever the 2nd one down is called).

Work at a Children's Science Discovery Museum about 7h/week during school year, more during summer (varies depending on how they schedule it)

I think there's more, but I'm not remembering it right now; and I should go to sleep anyway. Thank you for anything you have to say!!! If you want anything more please ask for it! =D

Oh, and if anyone knows anything about it, I'm curious as to what the film club is like there. Is it watching/analyzing movies? Making our own? And if we make our own, do they have equipment and programs we can use to make them?

THANX!!!!

if you really like cornell then apply ed cuz rd is a definite reach, early is still not guaranteed but stats show chances greatly increase

Ya, see, the problem with that is, the ED Deadline is... well... Tuesday. I've hardly even finished putting a solid list of schools together, let alone started applications. There is no way in hell I'd be able to complete the Cornell application by Monday evening. As much as I'd like it to be less of a reach, ED is not an option at this point.

Anything other opinions?

OH! One more thing: SAT 2s...

Chem - 760
Math 2c - 780
French - 460... ya, I hate French, but my parents made me take it anyway.

Please! Does anyone else have anything to say???

well then.. according to the program "college admissions predictor" you have a 10-14% chance RD @ cornell

You can complete the app, I did it the night before.

BlueDevil, is the "college admissions predictor" program free? If so, where can i get it?

Nervermind, i found it. Shareware...ick

the official software is a purchase... but if you dl it from Sheppard Software then you get colleges that start with the letters A-G for free (that includes Cornell!)

I dont know if its accurate, but it's sure as hell fun to mess around with all the different scenarios and see what affects chances and stuff of that nature..

... feels nerdy :-/

That thing can't be right, it gave me a 95% chance of getting in and my stats weren't really impressive...

Hmm...yeah it gave me 98%...and NO ONE has chances that good.

LMFAO i got a 8%. What's funny is that if I put in a 1 for EC's, I get a higher percentage!

Wow that thing is so flawed. Once I put in my SAT2 scores (770,770), my chances drop over 87%.

....looks like i should be going stand-by this Saturday :( haha, what a stupid program.

lol, that's absurd...I can't believe that program actually costs money for the full version.

lol yah, it assumes that you put in a minimum of 3 SAT 2's ... so if you put in just two it counts the third as a 0...

Haha!! This is very amusing to read... at least I'm getting replies! lol...

Well, 10% - 14%, even though the program is dumb, is about what I expected... and frankly, it's not all THAT bad if it's a DEFINITE reach school. Sure, there's a high chance that I'm not getting in, but there's a chance I could, which makes me happy. =)

Thanks!... not sure how much it helped, but thanks!

...any other Non-Program related suggestions? (comment on the program if you want, I don't care - it's fun - but it doesn't help really)

Did you take SAT II's?

Yes, I posted them before:

"Chem - 760
Math 2c - 780
French - 460... ya, I hate French, but my parents made me take it anyway."

I guess part of the reason I died on the French is because it was the 3rd of those tests I took that day, and I went braindead half-way through... o well, that's life. Good thing I didn't go braindead half-way through one of the other ones instead.
