Another Chances Thread

Hey, here are my stats…let me know what you think. I’m going to apply Early Decision next year.

I am a white female from Long Island, NY. (I go to a school where no one has even applied to Amherst in years)

UW GPA: 96ish (still have a semester to go), Weighted: 118
32 ACT
I am taking the SATs in June, I expect around 750s on the verbal sections, slightly lower on the math.
SAT IIs: Bio - 690 (heh, took it as a freshman), will take US History
APs: European History - 5
Rank: definitely top 10, most likely top 5 out of 400 students

Current Classes:
AP Physics B
AP Language and Composition
AP US History
Honors Choir
French 4 Honors
Precalculus Honors

Next Year Classes:
AP BC Calculus
AP Literature
AP French
AP Gov and Politics
AP Biology

ECs: leads in musicals and dramatic productions since freshman year (6 total), house manager for 3 shows, model congress, quiz bowl, Youths for Political awareness, drama club officer, member of EMILY’S List, Responsible wealth. I spoke at a National Press Club conference on tax equality.

My big EC/thing is that is was a US Senate Page for the past fall semester. I was the first page ever sponsored by Senator Clinton and she will likely be writing me a letter of recommendation.
Community service: YSOP in DC, Pittsburgh project, sunday school helper, serving homeless at the INN, that sort of thing.

Honors: Will be inducted into all honors societies at my school, things here and there.

I will have two really good teacher recommendations in addition to Senator Clinton’s, and the essay should be fine.

I really…really…really…really want to attend Amherst. =D

Your stats seem fine, as do most everyone's who apply. But there are no absolutes in the admissions process at any of the elites. Make sure you write some awesome essays (not merely fine) - they are crucial, since Amherst has no interviews. Let them see who you really are. D wrote about her love of rollercoasters, and she was accepted. Good luck!
