Opinions?

My D was also deferred EA---very similar stats, no campus visit, no hook, great essay, great recs, varsity volleyball, lots of community service. Let's hope both of you get accepted!

I think the only thing that hurt you was the 3.3 GPA, did you take any honors/AP/IB courses? I got accepted under EA and my SAT scores were a lot lower than yours. It all just depends on whether the admissions officers feel like you stand out.

You got similar stats like I did (and I got in,) so I will say you will GET IN. But I do worry though, this year BC's applicants increase by 12% making it a grand total of 26,000 applications. It's going to be tough, so good luck.

Honors Chinese and Math every year (AP BC Calc this year and second semester last year) and AP Bio this year

9 total AP/Honors classes

bkb 524- what were your stats? just wondering bc i got deferred EA too.

Your gpa hurts you, although your class rank isnt that bad, the 3.3 isnt great... the jump to a 3.5 senior year is good. Your SAT's are good.. I think it could be weakness of activities what got you, I'm not sure though. With colleges like BC you never really know..

That verbal score is awfully low. I don't think you'll get in RD, because its gonna be really competitive this year.

His verbal score is within last year's 25%-75% range. 620 is by no means awfully low. His math score is awesome and totally makes up for his lacking in verbal making his SAT composite 1380, higher than mine was when I was accepted BC EA... Your right when assuming the pool will be more competitive, but BC still has to admit more applicants to make up for its yeild rate. But, I still believe that the RD applicant pool will be strong, so the subjectives come into play, ec's, essays... His EC's dont really stand out, hopefully essays will make up for that. Good luck

BC is too hard to predict admission for. students who u would think would definitely get in willl get rejected, and students you think would never have a chance get in....example a student from my school 3/146 1390 sat more EC's than i can list as well as aps got rejected while me 18/146 1410 sat and minimal ec's and a few ap's got in. all i can conclude from this is my freshman year my gpa was somewhere in the C+ B- range and over the next three years i raised it to an A-A+ bringing my rank from something like 79/146 to 18/146...other than the huge upward trend in my grades i would have no idea how i got in and she didnt

Thats true, selectives schools are hard to predict, but BC is even harder. I spoke to my GC about BC and she said she knew alot of qualified applicants who were rejected whilst lesser qualified applicants accepted... In my case, I was a little surprised because I applied to CSOM, but my Math SAT 1 was a bit low for a b-program, especiall finance, but my SAT2 was good though so I guess they took that into consideration in lieu of my SAT 1 score.

yea. not only does BC's competitiveness make it difficult to predict but specifically BC's admissions is rather fickle. i have a feeling that a lot of it has to do with legacy, but then again i didnt have legacy and i made it in over more quilified candidates. all i can say is good luck there really isnt anything to say to be reassuring

I think BC puts a lot more emphasis on your personal essays than at other schools, so maybe that's how you guys got in ... how were your essays?

that may be true...from wat ive heard they like essays that talk about a unique experience that you have had and then how that has changed you....thats exactly what mine happened to be about, luckily

overall mine was good to very good. i had a columbia english PhD graduate revise mine multiple times

yea thats exactly what i heard too. what was your unique experience? do you think it should be more about who you are or what you've done??

I hope you're right about the essays. I thought mine was pretty good and well-written; it wasn't a completely unique experience (bench to starting star on baseball team in half a season, a little cliche), but I talked a lot about how it changed me, and I think it was really good.

this might be crap, but i don't think its just what you write about but how you write about it. i mean, how you describe a lump of turd could reveal a lot about yourself, right?

I wrote my on how much Jesus would accept homosexual people, and I'm at BC now...so much for the conservative mystique.

(In case you guys are wondering, everysingle catholic schools I applied to I used this essay and it work everytime.)
