Another Chances w/ New SAT post

Yeahh I'm just posting my stats along with my new SAT score like everyone else...please respond, thanks!

Junior
White Female
Unweighted GPA: 98, Weighted: 104, Rank: 2/512
Old SAT: 800V 710M
New SAT: 800CR 720M 670W
SAT II: 740 World History (I'm taking US and Math IC in June hopefully over 700 in both)
APs: 5 on World History (Taking US and Physics B this year)

ECs: (Very weak, I know)
-Junior class secretary
-School newspaper writer
-Mathletes
-Dance

Right now, I'm leaning toward Vassar ED, what do you think?
Also if that doesn't work out, what about Middlebury, Haverford, Dickinson, Skidmore, or SUNY Geneseo?

B to the UMP

uhh i know nothing about the new sats but a 1510 on the old one and being 2nd in the class would be on the upper end at vassar. you may want to look more closely at haverford and maybe swarthmore/amherst/williams. your ECs are not plentiful but perhaps you excel in a few?

90 views and no replies??
*bump

Sorry, Redbull you posted about 1 second before me lol.
Thanks for the input! I know ECs hold me back a lot which is why a lot of schools that should be a match for me (based on GPA and SAT) are really reaches.

want to take the V section for me, and i take the M for you?

why is your writing so much lower than your verbal? usually they correlate.

i cant give chances, i know nothing about lang.art schools

SUNY Geneseo - Should be a safety
Dickinson - Should be a safety
Skidmore - Should be a lower-match, safety
Haverford - Should be a match or safety
Middlebury - upper match or reach
Williams - read: Middlebury
Vassar - match

All are matches or safeties. Look to a couple of reach schools.

Thanks all!

asfsamurai - I'm pretty upset about my writing score, too. I got a 71/80 on multiple choice which I'm okay with, but I somehow got a 7 on the essay. I truly feel that this is a mistake and I am going to try and get my essay re-graded.

Most of you are saying that the schools I'm looking at are mostly safeties, or on the safe-side of match. These are ones that my guidance counselor all called a match for me because of my lack of ECs. Do you really think I have a shot at better schools (Dartmouth, Swarthmore, etc.) even with very minimal ECs?

Like, I'm probably not even going to make NHS in my school because we need a minimum of 5 years in clubs (like if you've been in 2 clubs for 3 years of HS that's 6 years) but I'm only in 3 (dance isn't through school) and I joined them all this year. I'm so embarrased by having a high GPA and not being in NHS :(

that EC is going to hurt to alot. especially looking at the trend of most colleges focusing more towards extra-curricular stuff than your academics (this is only a theory but I think the UC's are starting to do this... emphasis on 'theory')

and dont worry about joining NHS. it has the smallest impact on your college admission if not nothing at all (this should be true for most HS since NHS is just a club that you join if u have high GPA or such. In my school, we had a meeting every month for 15 minutes lol)

do you realli not have anything in grade 9 or 10? Your academic results are more than enough for many elite schools.

suny dickinson and skidmore - safeties

there's no WAY middlebury and vassar are harder to get into than haverford lol. they would be upper matches- you have a very strong shot at both.

then haverford is above those. kids got rejected with scores higher than a 1510, please, that's insulting to say it's a safety.

williams is a reach: your scores are about the same as those who apply but your ECs may hurt you- it is, after all, considered to be the one of the best LACs.
