I know someone asked about computer recommendations regarding the engineering program, but in general, is there really a problem with having a MAC over a PC, or the other way around? I guess I never really thought about it, but which would you recommend -- MAC or PC?

(I don't know if this is important, but I'm thinking about double majoring in journalism and advertising)

I would go with a PC just for the sake of simplicity. Windows is the most widely used OS. You wouldn't have compatibility issues if you have to install a certain program for your major. Likewise, you would have no trouble with the format of your files (aka having to convert them, etc). Those who say "Go Mac because PC crashes too much" are really exaggerating. If you do simply things and treat your PC well (OS updates, antivirus, spyware protection, firewall, etc), you should be very happy with your PC. Besides, if your computer crashes and you lose your files, it is your fault anyways for not backing up your files lol..

It comes down to personal preference. I am going with a PC because engineering uses a lot of specific software that requires windows, but so long as you have a copy of windows XP or vista and use dual boot and virtualization software, a mac shouldn't be a problem. I know in the other thread I extolled the stability of the mac, but windows is fine so long as you know how far you can push your system.
