Another Curious Set of Questions :)

As I explore more into class registrations I have more and more
questions hahaha. Thank you everyone who helped me on my
last topic. I am now taking International Marketing and International
Communication strategies due to my enlightenment from the
community…
I promise, once i know the ways of the Hoosier
loopholes, I will try to be like CalC. and A2 with words of wisdom :)

Does anyone have AIM screennames that I can use to riddle
you with riveting questions over the summer? :stuck_out_tongue: So I don’t have
to spam here as much hahahah. Mine is Xepa777.

2.It only takes 1 math class to be lligible for Kelley admission right? And
Two math classes to graduate?

Of the 27 general ed credit hours, how much do I need to apply into Kelley? One
From the A+H, S+H, and N+M category?

Is it impressive if I take ECON for Kelley admissions? I read A2’s advice on
Waiting off until I get into the honors program to take an easier version, but
Another Kelley student told me that it would look good on my application and
To just take it. I’m trying to buff up my grade as much as I can freshman year
And I’m trying to stay away from any classes involving numbers and sciences lol.

How many HPER classes are you allowed to take at Indiana? And are those
classes still factored into the GPA when they determine Kelley status?

Regarding Questions 2 & 3:

Here is what the Kelley Academic Bulletin says for Option 1 admission.

"To be considered for admission under Option I, students must meet the following requirements:

Enroll on the Bloomington campus.

Complete 26 credit hours of college course work that counts toward graduation. This course work may be taken at Indiana University or at another accredited institution offering a comparable program. (Students with more than 26 credit hours who apply for admission to the Kelley School for the first time should use the Option I admission criteria.)

Successfully complete the English composition requirement.

Successfully complete at least three of the following courses:
BUS-K 201 The Computer in Business
MATH-M 118 Finite Mathematics
MATH-M 119 Brief Survey of Calculus I
Or one of these elective courses: BUS-X 100 or BUS-G 100
A minimum grade of C is required for successful completion of all courses listed above.
FOR ADMISSION PURPOSES, THE THREE HIGHEST GRADES ACHIEVED IN THE COURSES LISTED ABOVE WILL BE USED TO COMPUTE THE APPLICANT'S ADMISSION GRADE POINT AVERAGE. (If only three of the four courses are taken, the admission decision will be based upon the grades achieved in those three courses.)

Submit an application by the required deadline. Application deadlines are April 1 for fall semester and November 1 for spring semester. (Grades for all course work required for fall admission must be recorded on the applicant’s IUB transcript by July 10.)2 " (emphasis added)

So, it is possible to only take one math class before you apply for Kelley admission, since you only need to take 3 of the 4 listed classes. As far as the 27 gen ed hours go, there is no specific requirement.

Re: econ, if you can do well, it would look good. Tough call though. It might be a good idea to map out a tentative 4 year plan and see if delaying econ is going to cause any problems down the road.

I know nothing about HPER classes (or sports according to my son!)

Thanks so much! Yah, i'm interesting in using HPER classes to raise my GPA ^_^. I'm planning on taking all the necessary classes, then max out the rest of the 18 credits with communication classes and HPER classes to boost my GPA lol. So if anyone knows, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Is there a reason you want to take 18 credit hours in a single semester? Taking 6 courses, instead of 5, can increase your chances of not doing as well gradewise, if you spead yourself too thin. Also, you have to pay extra for that 18th hour.

Well if the 6th class was "Billiards 101" or "basketball 101" where the grade is attendance based, I think I'll do okay :) hahaha. Just need to check to see if it's factored into the GPA and if it's worth doing lol. Lets call it my PE class but for college ^_^

Actually, you'll need to take three math classes to graduate with a business degree.

Two are in the math department (MATH M118 Finite Math and MATH M119 Survey of Calculus), but one is an ECON class that is actually a math class. It is ECON E370 Statistics for Business and Economics. You can take MATH K201 in place of this class if you want--although it is debatable which is the more difficult course to take.

I believe that Calcruzer meant MATH K310; MATH K201 is not a course at IU.

K310 has one difficult topic (statistical inferences) but I think the course is extremely fair and very manageable. Plus it's taught by McKinley, a top-notch professor. I can't speak for E370 but, as popular opinion has it, the class is a complete crapshoot.

On a sidenote, I achieved my very first A+ at IU in MATH-K310 this past summer session. I would fully recommend this course in place of E370.

Yes, Wavarian is correct. I meant MATH K310, not MATH K201.

However, the course is not taught by McKinley. It is taught by either Orrick or Polly, two teachers who are a bit tougher than McKinley.
