This is probably really stupid, but I assume the refrigerators in the dorms DO NOT have ice makers??? Guess we need to buy some ice trays???

i didn’t look, but i did buy ice trays as recommended by another mom here.

Good thinking. Adding to the list.

ice cube trays - check!

i bought the “good” ones by rubbermaid. : )

Show off! I guess I can’t hit the dollar store as planned.

I remember “back in the day” having a wire rack in the freezer so you could stack the ice trays. Wonder if they still make those???

ice trays suck enough without having crummy ones!

the ice trays these days stack. so maybe one doesn’t need the wire rack thingy.

I’m sure this post is going to get my good friend MikeWozowski speculating again about whether or not I really am a girl after all. :)

hmm … nah - this time i will just chalk it up to you being an awesome internet finder of things! not a girl!

but you better watch it. if you start acting girly again, i WILL call you on it! : )

My kids would just buy a bag of ice on the weekends. They didn’t trust the other guys to refill ice trays.

You will need to bring ice cube trays. If your child is one who likes ice in their drinks, ice cube trays are essential, plus the trays don’t take up as much space as a bag of ice (which is still a very useful idea, m2ck).

If you buying ice trays, make sure you pack the blender, too.

mine hasn’t asked for a blender … not sure i want to encourage that. : )

My son said he has one. I didn’t buy it. He inherited it. Needs it for milkshakes. His roommates last year thought he made awesome milkshakes. … BTW, he can live without ice cubes.

yes, a blender sure would be handy for a milkshake or a smoothie.

i just asked her if she wanted one and she said … oh … yeah!

she is a little clueless about moving away and not having all the comforts of home.

Mike: You might want to see if she wants a toaster and a coffeemaker, too. Of course, I also recommend checking with her roommates to see what they are bringing. Nothing like four toasters, three coffeemakers, two blenders and one vacuum. Well, they may skip the vacuum idea. My son will have three new suite mates this year. I’ve communicated with one of them, who happens to live with another one of them during summer classes, just to make sure they do not have duplicates.

mine is not that much into coffee, so will will skip that.

a toaster or a toaster oven would be handy, though!

(oh, and someone is bringing a vacuum)

my DDs roomies haven’t communicated that much so not much is all planned out.

plans so far … 4 girls in a suite. one is bringing a tv and one is bringing a vacuum.

sheesh!

A blender is a good idea. I’ll be making many of my meals this year, so I bought myself a Magic Bullet.

When packing kitchen goods, be sure to bring a can opener if your child normally eats things that come canned and don’t forget a sharp knife. Butter knives can’t cut very much and kitchen shears may not always be the most appropriate cutting instrument.

As others have posted, do talk with the roommates to see who is bringing the bigger items and the things that you only need one of ie a toaster, vacuum, or coffee pot.

Mike: My son and his roommates decided to wait on the TV (although they may ask me to stop and get one on the way to UA). They will pay one together. Translation: this thing will be a monster, I’m sure, and it won’t be for sporting events but for movie/board game nights. And that also explains why the blender is needed.
