<p>Hey guys,</p>
<p>So, it seems like you've all read a gazillion of these, but judging by the fact that there's no shortage of replies to each student's request, I'd really appreciate hearing what your opinions are of my chances of getting in early decision to Brown. </p>
<p>The stats:
SAT: 770 Verbal, 570 Math (yes, I know it sucks--I'm about to begin tutoring and will re-test), 680 Writing
ACT- 29 (25 math, 35 reading; I really suck at math)
GPA- 3.9 unweighted, 4.5 weighted (my only Bs were in alg I, which I took in 8th grade)
AP Grades: 5 AP Eng Lang, 5 APUSH, 4 AP Enviro, 4 AP World History</p>
<p>I go to an Arts magnet school for communications, though in my freshman and sophmore year I went for band (french horn) and had to re-audition to switch to communications</p>

<p>Extracurriculars (abbreviated list):
-Founder of Amnesty International at high school, president, Student Area Cooridnator for my region, member of Darfur Crisis Team (one youth member selected to advise staff on what direction AI should take to fight genocide). Organized numerous events with speakers, bands, student participation, etc.
*** Just to clear my record, this "extracurricular" isn't just some resume-booster, but an organization I care deeply about and would participate in regardless of whether or not it helped my chances of admission to college.</p>
<p>-Played French horn for 5 years in school and paid orchestra, numerous superiors in district festivals (after Junior year, unfortunately, I didn't have any time to continue practicing)</p>
<p>-assistant Editor-in-Chief for school newsmagazine, writer for editorial section</p>
<p>-Active member of debate team, "novice liason" officer</p>
<p>-Writer for local paper's teen section</p>
<p>-Helped raise funds to relay for life, "advocacy chair" for relay planning committee</p>
<p>-Volunteered on numerous occasions for various causes, very politically active</p>
<p>Awards:
-Gold Key award in journalism from Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
-Debate novice state champion, octo-finalist at nationals, a bunch of trophies from local tournaments
-1st place award for news writer and 1st place for editorial writer at district journalism competition
-"Most persevering student group" award from Amnesty International southern region (long story behind that award!)</p>
<p>Summer activities:
Freshman year- summer camp for performing arts
Sophmore year- Summer@Brown leadership and global engagement 2 week program, Florida Forensics Institute 2 week debate program for original oratory (went to both on a generous scholarship)
Junior year- spent spring break volunteering in an impovershed city in Costa Rica, summer worked retail, took Macro Econ, attended JSA program at georgetown where I took AP Gov (on scholarship)</p>
<p>So, there's the basics. Chances of admission? Tips/advice for the next few months?</p>
