Hi,
I've written a very good essay ~500 words (I think it can make my app much stronger.) for Princeton supplement about a person who has influenced you. I am submitting the essay to Yale, And Harvard as well.
But not all universities gave space in supplements to fit this essay.
So should I add that essay in additional information section for other schools to see? I will first submit my app to H Y P and then add that essay in additional information section and then submit the app to other schools.
Do you think it is a wise idea? I feel that adcom might be annoyed with an additional essay, but it may make my case much stronger.

Bump.

No!! The additional info section is NOT for additional essays, and it will not strengthen your application to add one. That section is for additional info on things like EC info that wouldn’t fit into the regular application, coursework you did that doesn’t fit on the app (MOOCs are an example, there is no good place for them on the Common App), family situation information that may impact your application, etc. If colleges wanted more essays, they would ask for them. “The thicker the file, the thicker the applicant…” Admissions offices have thousands of applications to read. If you can’t fit in what they would like to see in the items they specifically request, you aren’t really honing and focusing on the right stuff in your application. And no essay is going to make up for a shortage of test scores, GPA, EC accomplishments, and recommendation strength. Unless a college specifically asks for supplemental essays, do not submit it. It will not help you.

The additional information says

“Please provide an answer below if you wish to provide details of circumstances or qualifications not reflected in the application.”

I’m assuming they want really important things that you didn’t add. Lets say you couldn’t attend 1 year of school because of illness etc etc.

Personally I wouldn’t add it because they don’t want to see another essay. (After all they have 35,000+ essays to read already)
