another FAFSA QUESTION

so I've done one kid's FAFSA. Taxes are not done yet. Should I wait to submit until taxes are done and can make adjustments?

School says (kids will be sophomores) that FAFSA does not have to be in until May 1.. However, last year, it seemed that earlier FAFSA was better...

opinions?

Opinion only - get it in with ‘will file’ and then when you do file do the necessary corrections.

Freshmen year is different. They are processing all the requests for students who have applied. That is why they need it early. For returning students, not as many to process, so they do not need it as early.

In any case, can’t hurt to file now as “will file”, and update when you have filed. They, you won’t inadvertenly miss a deadline.

Get it in early. Even with returning students, there are some need based aid awards that are done first come-first served. Things like SEOG, federal work study, and perkins loans have limited funding.
