Another fin aid thread! Bright futures?

Hey,

I guess this is specified towards gt8rmom haha. I got my offer of fin aid in which they offered me about $12k in grants + scholarships. My question is how does bright futures mess around with that number? Is it a final $12k unchangeable + bright futures? Does it lower when bright futures is calculated in?

Thanks

It's 12K + bright futures.

i got 8000 in loans and bright futures...this sucks i was at least expecting some scholarship...anyone get a scholarship besides bright futures?

how much is your cost of attendance? ya.. same Ruo i was offered 12k in grants/loans/workstudy.

but my private scholarship was not included in there.....? the check was sent to UF in like jan. though.

btw. the bright futures in included already in the 12K Ruo.

cost of attendance: 15K
expected contribution: 6K
gross need: 9K
total awards: 8800...only real award is full bright futures (approx. 4K) the rest is loans

anyone know the qualifications for the UF president, platinum, and gold awards?

hmm....where's ASMAJ? how will private scholarship affect the financial aid package?

The only scholarships I know UF offers are the nat'l merit, nat'l achievement, and URM ones (president, platinum and gold). And all are going down in favor of the opportunity scholarship for 1st generation, low income students. If they still have president, platinum, and gold then you would have been notified when you got an acceptance letter.

Private scholarships- I have heard mix things so I am not sure who is right. Some say if you get private scholarships they take away aid offered in equal amounts. Also private scholarships are suppose to be reported and if not (and they find out) they will be asking for money they gave (grants, etc) back. Other say they just add the money up and nothing is affected.

heres the issue haha BF isnt included yet. it breaks down my awards and its all named grants, none of them BF. i guess ill call the fin aid department monday

They listed Bright Futures Medallion for mine, but I should be Academic, a.k.a. 100%. I wonder if I should call them.

ya i have BF Included on mine too. did register for BF yet?

"They listed Bright Futures Medallion for mine, but I should be Academic, a.k.a. 100%."

--->Are you sure you have all the requirements GPA, SAT/ACT's, volunteer hrs, etc? If you are then I would call.

Yeah, I have all of the requirements. I've checked with my guidance counselor and I also checked on FACTS.org. I guess I will call them on Monday, then.

How did you guys already get your financial aid package? Do you have to say yes before you get it? I haven't gotten mine :-(.

---> Have you appiled for FASFA yet?
--->If so, go to www.isis.ufl.edu (the left table has financial service and see if your fin aid has been decided)

okay well i reported the scholarship which was $1k. the check was already sent to UF in Jan. i didn't kno how to report it before. hopefully they'll just reduce my loans rather than my grants. or i can i just reduce my perkins loan right now but not accept them?

Depends, a multitude of things can happen. They might not change anything and the scholarship you reported will just be added on and you will see it in you fin aid report on ISIS, once they put it in.

they probably will lower something......because if they don't they'll be giving me money. since they met my full "need" in the aid package.

If I got my aid package, but Bright Futures isn't listed on there, when I get Bright Futures added, will it reduce my aid? Also, what if I have a scholarship pending that is not a sure thing yet, as in I am still in the running of people to get it, do I have to report that?

just report the scholarship when you receive it.
