I'm applying to Colby and really, really want to go there. I have a 30 ACT with 3.85 unweighted GPA so I would think that it would be a pretty good match for me. Plus I'm from Wisconsin so I'm sure that helps.

Until I found out that my friend is applying to Colby, too. Her SAT is really good... 2380, plus she got perfect scores on all of her SAT subject tests (math and 2 other ones..can't remember) , and her GPA is a solid 4.0 unweighted.

I know that she will get in to Colby. The question is, will it hurt my chances of getting in because she's from my school?

I wouldn’t worry about it, honestly. You may have better ECs, better recs, or a better “why Colby” short statement/common app essay. Colby can and will take more than one person if they’re both qualified, which you two seem to be.

I sort of have the same problem too…the girl has a little lower stats than me but she is a minority. She is applying to three of my schools, including Colby…ugh. Anyway. This isn’t about me.

Do not worry!! Colby will love you both. Best of luck to you :)

You can convert you application to EDII up until January 29th. Call the admissions office at 207-859-4800. You just need to fax in the ED agreement from the Common App sight and notify the admissions office.

And are you sure this other girl has Colby as a first choice? Sometimes admins can tell if somebody’s just padding out their list. If you really do love Colby (and who wouldn’t?), follow gowhitemules’s advice and switch your app to ED! :)

I agree with switching to ed2. Also, having gone to a high school within a couple hours of colby, there were quite a few applicants from my school. In my year alone 7 kids were accepted at Colby (not all went, but i think this thread is more about being accepted then going). I think that it is made out as a bigger deal than it actually is.
