another Girl Problem

hello i started college 3 weeks ago and i am 16 and nearly 17 and there is this girl in my class that is 19. I feel really attracted to her but dont know how to talk to her,

in class she talks alot to everyone and is really friendly she even says hi to me randomly which she dosent to anyone else in the class. she also likes the same type of music as me but she always has her friend around and 2 of the other boys with her. ( the other boys already have GFs and they are both 19) one of the boys i talk to quite abit as well.

the thing is that i really like her but dont know how to let her know without embarrassing myself or anything.

we are in a IT class and spend around 3 days a week in class together and i try to sit near her but there are never seats

what shall i do

Is there a chemistry lab on campus?

no :frowning: there isnt

Well in my state it is illegal for anyone over 18 to have relations with anyone younger than 18. The age of consent here is 16 but once you hit 18 it no longer applies in the same way. Though I did have class with a 16 year old once and he seemed like he’d be cute in a few years and I enjoyed talking to him, it sooo never would have happened. I was nice to him because he was fun and I was afraid people weren’t being inclusive to him because he was so young for a college student.

I just turned 20 a couple months ago and my sister is 16, I just honestly can’t even imagine dating back that far. If I were you I’d just be friends with her and find some girls your own age.

There’s not even a proximity exception?

I am pretty sure there isn’t, but I guess I could be wrong. I know people who have been tried for statutory rape for being 18 and being with a 16 year old but I do not know if they were convicted.

ETA: I tried to look it up, according to sexlaws.org it is legal for a 16 year old to consent to sex with someone over 18, however as the 16 year old is a minor their parents are legally accountable for their welfare and can refuse to consent to the relationship altogether and then there would be legal implications for that-- so at any time parents can choose to press charges if they do not condone the relationship. Since I’ve never known anyone but parents to decide to press charges for statutory rape that might be why I got it confused, if that is indeed the correct interpretation of the law.

grow some balls and talk to her. stop staying in your room all day playing video games. your username proves my point. win.
