My daughter is moving in early for the Community Building Community program on Aug 25th. She will most likely be living in Thurston since that was her first choice. I can get the GWU Inn for $134.10 per night and the State Plaza for $143.10. Same cost for parking at each so only a $9.00 (marginal) difference. Does anyone have an opinion on these 2 places? I saw the other hotel thread and it sounds like the GWU Inn is decent enough. Any opinions on the State Plaza? I am wondering if it would be better to stay at the State Plaza because it is so close to Thurston or will that not really matter? How does move-in work exactly? Do we just stop in front of Thurston and empty out the car quickly and then go park it somewhere else and leave someone with all the stuff until we get back? Or is there enough room to park for awhile? I'm sure it will be a bit better than the regular move in day but I'd like to know what to expect. Thanks!

may want to call back to GWU Inn - the move-in discount is $118 per night, not $134!

Hmmm…I will call back and see what I can find out! Thanks for the heads up.

I called and they said they couldn’t find that rate. You are lucky 1sttimemom! You didn’t book online did you?

I have stayed at both hotels, and I think they are both comparable. State has bigger suite-like rooms with a kitchenette. It is a little closer, but really no difference. Move in is always a bit crazy, even early - it is best if you can bring some kind of hand cart from home. After you go to pick up your key at one place you can pull up curbside. They save spots outside, but sometimes there is a line. If you can leave one person with the car and have the others bring up the stuff it is good. One year we payed the $100+ for the move-in-service, it was really easy and nice to have someone else do the work and the money is a donation.

saf: during CI the school will provide with parking passes and with hotel discounts vouchers. While I was lucky to get those to expire on the 1st week of classes, you may need to call GW CI and ask about it. they will guide you to whom to call.
