- Some essays topics will definitely include running since it's a big part of my life
- Times are 800 - 2:09, 1600 - 4:39, 5k - 17:55. Hopefully will drop a sub 16:30 this fall as my training is going real well. MIght help a little in admissions
- 4x1600 relay school record (dunno if that's worth anything?)
- Will continue in college no matter where I go

~Other

Essays - hopefully great
Recs - One from my coach, so probably personal as we're good friends. Dunno about the other.

Chance me for:

Columbia ED
HYPSM
Wharton
Brown
Cornell (dad works here)
University of Michigan - Ross (Early Response)
University of Chicago - EA

Also, here's another question. For those of you experienced CCers who have seen applicants like me before....What do you think is more likely. Columbia ED acceptance or AT LEAST 1(i just need one) acceptance from HYPSM assuming I don't sacrifice quality in applying to 5 schools.

PS - I know there are no safeties there, but I have them. I just don't need chances for them.
PPS - I know I'm a prestige-whore, but I really have visited all these schools except mich and chic, and liked them all =P

THanks!

Yes, yes, good chance

I see nothing wrong.

If you're applying to SEAS and not the college, then you will probably walk in.

But if you want to major in econ/finance, why not pursue running at MIT?

So here's the thing: apart from Track, grades, and scores yyou really don't have much on the application. Long distance recruits at ivies are tough and I mean TOUGH. Your times are just not good enough for a recruit in track...IDK cross country times though. with that said...
Columbia ED: 50%
HYPMS: 20%
Wharton: <10%
Brown: too fickle to decide.
Cornell: IN
UMICH; IN Ross:Reject...acceptance rate was 6% last year and business ECs are HUGE. One you get a 30 on the ACT it's all ECs in this program.
UChicago: 80%

MIT doesn't recruit for sports, but they give a laid back atmosphere. That is what really attracted me to them. I personally could sprint div I at the expense of grades, but MIT understands that kids are students first. very attractive quality.

ye, like 1MX MIT doesn't really recruit, but I'll still meet with the coach during my visit to get a feel of what my chacnes are. Also, this is for CC, not SEAS.

1MX I think you're right for the most part. I think the cornell internship may help a bit. But, my weakness for B schools is my lack of business EC's.

CC is a toss up. Unfortunately there is only room for so many asian males from New Jersey.

Rarely HYP but how about the other Ivy Leagues?

you have great grades and scores well above their averages, your dad works there, and you did research there (expressed interest), it's a no-brainer in my opinion considering how many students they admit. UMICH has a history of every so often rejecting really smart OOS students because UMICH knows they are most likely a safety school for the ivies, be careful with that.

gaffe: all ivies are just as tough for XC running

On the other hand: harvard doesn't even have 1 official sprinter. They had their high jumper do the 60 indoors, a fball player give it a shot (graham inflinger), and just recruited a pretty fast kid from muskegon, but I believe he is sticking to fball. His name is John F....... something. he won class D 100m with a 11.3 though. Nothing special, but as I said, I believe he's doing fball only.

i think he was referring to the applicants my school sends to ivies?

We usually get Penn or Brown. Last few years there were 2 Penns and they really weren't that spectacular or anything. Brown admit was a black recruited female sprinter so.......ya know

this year was a very weak year. Val - gtown, sal - stern...that's it

ok ok, gotcha. That should help a bit bc I know regional 'managers' keep records of schools and look back in time to see the quality of applicants who were accepted/rejected, so if you are better, that's a nice advantage. In my case, we haven't sent a kid to an ivy, or top 10 school for that matter since the 1980's. :-/

Colleges usually keep the amount they accept from a high school the same.

alright that's good 1mx since i stand out a bit compared to the applicants who have tried for ivies at my school in teh past....which is why we have so few

gaffe: even if that number is 0?

It could vary but that depends on the year. What I'm saying is that there won't be a huge jump of acceptances; it remains fairly constant.

oh alright, well since i'm just 1 person it probably wont affect me that much

bump, any other suggestions/input?

you're in columbia ED.
