another interview post

well, it's not entirely another generic post where i ask about interviews because my circumstances are slightly different (in an effort to gain brownie points, i'd also like to add that i did peruse the other interview threads, so i'm not really asking for advice, although feel free to offer if you feel so inclined). it's hard to describe the type of person i am in the field allotted, but you might get some sort of picture when i say that i can't recall what school i applied to for columbia. moreover, i wasn't really paying attention to the phone call i received about thirty minutes ago regarding my interview, so i'm now left with a vague idea of when exactly it is, and the first name of my interviewer.

i pride myself in being extroverted, so i'm not really worried about the interview per se. i also like to pride myself in not coming off as an idiot for the most part, so i was just wondering what you think i could do with the "why columbia" questions when i can't even remember what i specifically applied for - and i suppose it might appear as if i don't really care about the school if i don't even remember these things, but it's really more of a combination of applying quite awhile ago and my poor memory.

would my interviewer not respond well if i gave a "just because" type of answer, or am i better off just inventing a reason?

I was halfway done typing a legit response to this thread when I realized that the OP is probably a troll.
If you are not a troll, then log into your columbia application to check what school you applied to and just make up some reason why you want to go to columbia when your interviewer asks.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that yes, a thoughtful response to the "Why Columbia?" question is far better than a "just because".

Log onto your account and see what you did write on your app.

The truth is that there are bound to be reasons for going to Columbia that are incredibly common and which can tend to sound generic... like, because they love the core and opportunities in NYC etc. Your interest in Columbia (which I reckon is pretty important) will come across if you genuinely want to go there. Your reason doesn't have to be out there and unique, it just has to be thoughtful, personal and genuine.

A bit off topic, but can someone please post the link to the account from which we can see what we wrote on our applications? I can't find it for some odd reason and I need to check my Part 1. It would be much appreciated :)

are you ADD?

I interview applicants, and if I got a 'just because' response, I'd punch him/her in the face. Come up with a real answer, and don't waste your interviewer's time, that is, if you can remember when and where it is.

wow am I glad I didn't have you as an interviewer :P

Not that I said "Just Because"... ;)

hehehe

No that came off more abrasive than I intended. I'm actually really nice as an interviewer, even if the answers you give me are BS--I'll rape you in the report, though.
