so i should bring a laptop to orientation, for sure? or are there some secret computer labs that new kids don't know about?

...and someone said "You don't have to use your counselor's laptop to enroll in classes, everyone's accounts are activated on the third day at 9:00 AM." so that means i can enroll in classes myself?

there are two computer labs in rieber hall, computers in powell, a computer lab on first floor in covel. i don't know if there are other ones, those are just the ones i saw, there are probably more. but it'll be much easier if you just bring your laptop.

I actually respectfully disagree with jam3rz. To use a computer, connected to the internet, you'll also need an ethernet cable. Plus, you'll spend a hell of a lotta time signing up to ResNet and doing all that random crap which makes moving in such a fun experience. You really don't need a laptop; most people just look up classes they want to take at the computer labs. You're better off checking the registrar's schedule before going to orientation to see what classes interest you. Also, just use the lab computers, be patient and talk to some people while you wait.

technically, yes, you can enroll by yourself. i.e. you can be in your room on your laptop at 9 AM sharp while the rest of your orientation group waits in line. obviously your OCs wouldnt like that but i did a lot of things my OC didn't like.. anyway, if you want to get ahead, do it.

after my orientation experience, i think that bringing a laptop is useful. there were times where i really wanted to do some research on some classes but the labs were ridiculously filled (and then they closed early for some apparent reason also!)...but if you think that you have your schedule down pretty well and it's too much hassle bringing a laptop with you then it won't kill you not to bring one...for me, having a laptop would just have made it more convenient.

I made it through alive without my own computer and I didn't do any prior research last year.

"ResNet and doing all that random crap which makes moving in such a fun experience." When you move in during fall, you have to set up your computer for the network and such. It's not just plug in and use; you gotta install STC software and stuff so that they can ensure that your computer is safe. However, I think you don't have to register with wireless.

actually, if you go to the lounges in the res halls, like the fireside lounge in rieber, you can use their wireless. all you need is your student ID# and your pin #.

^ I would still bring a laptop because between now and your orientation session, some classes might fill up, circumstances may arise, and you want to be able to plan up until the point when you register. It's in your best interest.

i agree with dragon. better safe than sorry? and your OC decides who goes first...it can be who arrives @ their room first...random number drawings, etc.

Do you guys recommend bringing a laptop for the transfer orientation? And are there a lot of places on campus w/ wireless? Is it easy to log on?

I dunno Citan. I had my laptop at transfer orientation and it was helpful. But it's not like I carried it around all day. Used the computers in Covel to plan my schedule and then got the laptop out of the trunk right before registration opened up.

well when we move in i think they register our computers on the system and stuff...to access library stuff.
but yeah wireless all you neeed is the bol id and password
