reviewing some material on a college my son is interested in. and have a question
their material says anyone who intends to take pre-calc, applied cal or calc I must qualify for admission based on sat II math scores. if you dont have them before admission they will administer them at orientation... BUT they say they will administer a satII IC or a satIIC and you must score 710 on the sat II ic or 630 on the IIC. on the college board site there is no IC test... is IC the same as Math I or Math II . if so does that mean you must get 710 on math I or 630 on Math II? or 630 on MathI and 730 on Math II? which seems backwards as math II is supposed to be harder???

IC is Math I. IIC is Math II. Your son apparently must get a 710 on Math I or a 630 on Math 2

Well, I guess it is kind of confusing regarding the naming.

The SAT I is the “big test” aka the reasoning test.

The SAT IIs are subject tests: Math I and II, Chemistry, US History, etc., etc.

They dropped the “C” from the math test titles, so now they are just called Math Level I and Math Level II. There were never 2 different Math IIs, one with a C and one without, so you’ve confused yourself on that point.

You’ve got some seemingly apparently contradictory info on the necessary scores; I’d check again.

Another confusing thing is that on the SAT I there is a math section, which you get a score for. So, there are three different SAT math scores possible.

thanks, i couldnt find anything with math and a “C”, didnt know that was what they used to be called…and the college website still uses that nomenclature… IC or IIC Skyhook, i copied word for word what is on the site and that is why i was confusedi .
he got a 740 on the SAT math section, and we are trying to decide which math subject test he should take .

Take Math 2. Your son’s SAT math score shows that he can handle it and there is a much more generous curve. I myself got a 760 on the math section and an 800 on the Math II subject test, so your son should have no problem whatsoever with getting a 710 on it, let alone a 630.
