another observation

so may 1st approached and that probably prompted a bunch of people to submit their SIRs to certain UCs. And since these people waited until the last minute, they were probably contemplating other options.

Well wherever you guys submit your SIR, just realize that getting into a UC is a pretty damn good accomplishment. All of the UCs, aside from Merced, are in the top 10% of U.S. colleges and universities (yes, even Riverside). So the point is, you'll be getting a good education at any of the schools. And UCsd is one of the better UCs, so you'll get a great education, which is pretty much the main reason for going to college.

Anyway, back to my point. A lot of people seem to be dissatisfied with where they're going next year. And i can totally understand this. But I just hope people realize how fortunate they really are...especially people on CC. Back in the day, most people who went to college were upper middle class caucasion men. Fast forward to 2006 and look at teh demographics. Going to college is a wonderful privilege. I know it's easy to start complaining, but i hope we realize that a lot of people can't go to college. I hope we see how fortunate we really are to be going to college, let alone a good one like ucsd.

Let's be humble.

just my two cents.

I humbly concur.

I agree. UCSD is an amazing school and is ranking very high on all the college lists.

I couldn't have said it better myself, Vi.

UC's have to be one of the best bargains for quality higher education.

i duno, i was in love with ucsd when i looked at it the first time so heh. woohoo!

vi, i think though, that most people are happy with getting into ucsd cos a lot of people like it, just a lot of people also like schools they didnt get into (me included sob MIT) but no matter. WE'RE GOING TO COLLEGE!! partee

the only thing that bothers me is that people who i think didn't do as much as work as I did got into UCSD. I just feel like I didn't need to try as hard as I did in order to get into UCSD.

i like ucsd more and more everyday. it's a good feeling =]

you guys make me more and more excited about going there.

Laudable two cents Vii and I completely agree...did you guys know that only 15.5% of Americans manage to complete a 4 year degree?? We're a very small minority here and we should be proud (although i was mildly disturbed when i read those numbers)

Hola from La Jolla! I wholeheartedly agree.

In fact, my current semi-inebriation will be an excuse to spill my heart out on here and use myself as an example. When I applied to UCSD, I only did it because of the name recognition. I didn't even think I was going 'SD because I'm "such" an east coast kid (majority of the schools I applied to were back east). But like I've mentioned in ancient threads, sudden financial problems arose that forced me to reconsider schools in CA. I got into UCB, but didn't want to go there because it's too close to home (among other things). Stanford and UCLA rejected me; I'm wait-listed at Brown after applying early decision; the financial aid I received from the other east coast schools was disappointingly minimal. So initially, my decision to come to UCSD was half-hearted and reluctant.
Oh, how things do change.
I feel really optimistic about my future at UCSD. In fact, this is the third time I've been in La Jolla since I first visited. We ARE lucky to have the opportunity for such a great education. I hope others realize what you're saying, Vi, and adopt a similar mentality.

You can't force yourself to love something, but you know what? Just suck it up. I understand that sometimes people are upset about having to compromise a part of themselves (I sure was), but if they don't get over it eventually, they'll just be unhappy, maybe even unmotivated. It's not rocket science. So don't be chumps about it. <3

Vi, we're going to be friends at 'SD. I promise I won't babble excessively like I just did now in this post.

Viva UCSD. Go Tritons.

P.S.: My ultimate decision was between UCSD and GWU. GWU offered me a half-scholarship, and I would have been waist-deep in approx. $250,000 student debt after law/grad school. "Ridic."

And Northwestern's school color is purple. Three words: W T F.

CHEERS to that newslang.....I too wasn't too happy with the thought of coming to UCSD (my dream school was BERKELEY.....) but i guess we should all take a leaf out of ur book...err...post.....

GOOOOOO TRITONS.....(I think we should really do something about UCSD's school spirit while we're there)

You're all screwed. Why?

I'll possibly be your TA.

Mwahahaha.

im satisfied wit wher i got into, ucsd is cool

Well......ooooooooooh...........I'm "SCARED"............

U don't know who we are MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

;)

UCSD was my first choice and I'm so happy I'm going there. I've talked to some friends that go there and they all love it so much. Its seriously what you make of it. Its not like there aren't any parties there, you just have to find them. There is a social life if you're a social person.

I am very humble, i just humbly *****

Thats Good To Hear

Yay. People seeem more excited about their decision. And I know we all had so many tempting options, but we all choose ucsd for a reason. Whatever it may be, stand behind it. UCSD 2010 <3<3

We will def. be friends at sd, Ashley. =] And I love how we're both so opinionated and MUST put our two cents into any situation.

15.5% Americans completing their undergrad? Wow. We are extremely extremely fortunate.

Oh and Natalie, I <3 Anthropologie too.
