another one bites the dust

If I see a panel of all women I think of “The View” and I can’t stand “The View”.

Ha ha…always blame the person who just left their job. If you read the tabloids Matt is responsible for every one who left…even the ones that were not that good, not that enjoyable. I agree on the male host although I love Hoda so that is a toughie… I just think all women would become to much like The View Lite plus Al Roker…I probably wouldn’t watch if that happened.

The networks probably think that they’ll attract more male viewers with a male co-host.

That would be a mistaken assumption I think. My H totally enjoyed Katie Couric…there was a short lived TV show about a guy who was “in love” with Katie Couric and I always teased my husband about that. Personally I like the dynamic with a mixture of men and women a and I think part of the charm of Katie Couric that men liked was her dynamic with Matt, they played off each other so well. She just felt flatter and more one dimensional when she was all by herself doing nightly news. I saw a similarl thing in my TV market when they did a house cleaning and brought in new people - one woman and one man in particular were just teeth grinding alone but they paired them for morning news and they both just lit up. The dynamic is important.

Then you would really hate The Talk.

Hoda and Matt have charisma. I also like Williek, and the Washington, D.C. Rep.

Matt wasn’t just male, he was good looking. I think that was about women. (Like it or not.)

Craig Melvin another possibility.

ML wasn’t that good looking anymore.

They need to steal Anderson Cooper from CNN. Handsome guy with charisma and so far - fingers crossed - have not been accused of anything.

I personally enjoy the give and take of male and female co-hosts because of the different perspectives.

One of the people I enjoy on Today is Rossen of Rossen Reports; I am not even sure what his first name is. His presentations are interesting and I always learn something new. I would like to see him given an opportunity to host more than just a short segment once a week or so.

I have been switching from Today to CNN in the morning occasionally and am very impressed with Chris Cuomo, the younger, better looking brother of my state’s governor. I’d like to see him on Today, but he seems like too serious a journalist to do morning entertainment TV.

As for Matt, I have no words. I had heard the rumor about Natalie Morales and while it was tacky, if true, they were both adults and consenting. On the subject of the Matt button, H and I were watching (sad to admit, we are this pathetic) “A Very Brady Christmas” from 1988 the other day. In one scene, Peter Brady goes into his female boss’ office. She is apparently his girlfriend. As he turns around to close the office door, she reaches under the desk and the door begins to close automatically. H and I wondered if that was where Matt got the idea.

I agree about Chris Cuomo. I didn’t really know much about him until the hurricane coverage where he was fantastic. He would be great on Today since he seems serious enough with a good personality and sense of humor, not to mention handsome.

I hope Chris Cuomo would not be interested. IMO, The Today Show is too fluffy. Yes, it has news for the first twenty minutes or so, but then it turns into silliness. The show needs an entertainer, not a journalist.

I never liked Matt Lauer. He always took himself way too seriously. And his interview of Hilary during the election was so over-the-top flagrantly nasty that he had no credibility with me after that. Not really before that, either. He never ever struck me as a serious journalist.

The show doesn’t “need” another male host. Having two women be the hosts is no different than the PBS News Hour when Judy Woodruff and Gwen Ifil were hosts. Those two women (Ifil’s dead now and Woodruff is the only host) were serious, well-informed, and extremely credible, and I don’t think anyone ever saw them as View-ish.

For decades we had men only as hosts and we didn’t think of it as NFL-like. Having two women is not at all View-like.

Men and women are different full stop. The dynamic of having both is something that can not be replicated with a single sex cast in my opinion. To me that will be NBCs conundrum. Al helps but his role now is narrow. But it will take awhile to find the right dynamic.

I agree with momofthreeboys. Male and female combo is best, IMO.

Highly unlikely. He just inked a new contract with CNN. If he wasn’t willing to leave CNN to join his good friend Kelly Ripa, which would have undoubtedly come with a nice salary, I don’t see it happening now. Besides, not everyone wants to wake up at 3:30 a.m.

Yes, Anderson cooper is too good for the Today Show. I’ve always enjoyed his questions when he interviews people. He asks the questions that I have, but no other journalist takes the time to ask. It’d be a shame to waste him on cooking segments.

I’ve just come back to the Today Show after a five and a half year boycott, so I’m out of the loop, but my research tells me that Hoda was part of the second hour even before ML was fired. True? I’m just really enjoying her. I never watched the fourth hour because…I don’t know…it just never appealed to me. But yesterday I made of point of watching it, and Hoda didn’t have the same appeal for me as she does the first two hours, Go figure.

@techmom99 I watched that movie this weekend, too! I watch it every year.

It’s okay @techmom99 - I listen to my “Partridge Family Christmas Album” every year, and I sing along with it proudly.

I keep seeing “ML” and thinking people are referring to me!

ML will not even be a memory at NBC.

but @MaineLonghorn will always be known at CC like Norm was known at Cheers.
