Re: post #109 - unless I missed something, Anderson (Cooper) has not been accused of anything. Or is there another Anderson I’m not thinking of???
It doesn’t say he locked women in. Only that it kept others from entering.
The Ronan Farrow interviews are interesting.
@abasket, I have not heard a word against him, thank goodness.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Despite a request to be merged, I kept this thread separate because of the prominence of Matt Lauer. That said, please don’t move this off the rails with discussions of “what constitutes harassment” “Are men safe” “Which is worse” etc. Those posts belong in the general assault/harassment thread.

And I don’t have the time to untangle them from here.
@abasket–No, Anderson hasn’t been accused–someone just mentioned it as a “who’s next?”. Sorry.
I remember when the Access Hollywood tape came out and some people said it’s just ‘locker room’ talk, and so many people came out and said I don’t know anyone who talks like that. At the time I said I think 75% of men have talked like that at some point. Today I am raising that number to 90%
I wonder if Lauer ever told his son not to text certain types of pictures? Now he is caught doing just that.
The Variety article is worse than I thought.
Wonder when Lauer will be making a statement
When you actually read the allegations it is just maddening that women have endured this behavior for so long. Why is it so hard for some men to take women seriously in a professional capacity? It is reported that Lauer played a game with male staffers where they would name a woman and then vote on whether they should “bleep her, marry her or kill her.” These men obviously just saw women in the workplace as entertainment not as colleagues or educated professionals with value to add.
Apparently Lauer is “accepting” of the network’s decision and expressed “remorse.” I misjudged him and thought he was a good guy but after reading all this good riddance to him.
I feel badly for the women involved and also for Matt Lauer’s children. He has three minor children. Within a day, their dad has gone from being a celebrity to being an embarrassment. Between the new allegations and the dredging up of statements from their mother (who during a rift described their father as controlling, cruel, and inhumane), these kids will have a lot to deal with.
So it looks like they had “incontrovertible proof” of the harassment of the intern who worked the '14 Winter Olympics with Lauer. Apparently she saved the messages and texts she received – if you can believe Page Six they are reporting the picture was so damning that there was no choice but to fire him immediately.
Circling back to the door lock button, that’s not uncommon for security. DH has one. But, it also alerts security that there’s a potential “situation” so it couldn’t be used for a predator move.
Never cared for ML after he got Ann Curry fired. Rumors last year were that he was on his way out because of the lackluster Olympics coverage and him being difficult to work with.
Media (not just Variety) was hot on the heels of NBC, that forced then to react quickly. Did NBC know more? I’d bet yes.
An intern brought the receipts. Including, apparently, a lewd picture Lauer sent her. I have a guess what that picture might be. When will guys realize if we don’t already have a sexual relationship with them, we don’t want to see their johnsons? We don’t. We just don’t.

A comment I read on another blog “Matt Lauer hit by the Karma bus and Ann Curry was driving it.”
I think his wife will leave him immediately. And take his kids.
The count of women who have accused George HW Bush of groping them from his wheelchair during photo shoots is currently at 8. Even he had a mode of operation on this. He would tell a dirty joke while he did it. And AFTER the shot, the security guard who was with him regularly would tell the women they shouldn’t have stood next to him. Now… maybe given his age and this pattern that was emerging (and they knew it), his family should have taken a firmer role in not allowing those appearances and making sure he wasn’t too close to women if he did them.
I will say that “don’t stand near anyone, ever, if you don’t want to be touched” is ridiculous. Women should be able to stand next to men who are not their current sexual partners and expect that they won’t be groped. That is NOT on women to change their behavior.
Correct me, but I heard she’s been living in the hamptons, and filed 2x for divorce. I doubt the kids will be surprised. I just worry what someone use to being a celebrity will do, how hi a suicide risk, or will the narcissism prevail.
How many others will follow?
“And take his kids”. There has been nothing to suggest at this point that that is necessary. He needs to apologize to his kids, definitely, for the hurt this certainly has caused. According to reports, he and his wife are somewhat estranged and lead fairly separate lives. She and the kids reside in the Hamptons. He stays in Manhattan during the week.
Cross posted with @bookworm Yes, I have thought about that too- risk of depression, suicide, substance abuse, etc. for the accused or those in his family now brought into this. And , of course, the stress for the accusers and their families as well.
There is something wrong with the story and NBC news not knowing about it. The variety and NYT story has indicated that women did report Lauer but nothing changed. Expect lots of settlements with NDAs.
It wasn’t Eric Bolling who committed suicide, but maybe his son. The official ruling is it was accidental, but the timing is very curious.
I always feel sorry for the family.
Two more victims of ML. One is the victim of sexual assault.

That NYT story is … astounding.
