Schools:
MIT
Caltech
CMU
Stanford
UC Berekely
RPI
Harvard Mudd
Princeton
Olin

mathwiz:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB: Match

You have good chances, but um how did you go from Geometry Honors to Calc BC? I think you have good chances though.

I'm an MA resident. How does that affect my chances?

Jumping from Geometry to Calc was due to changing schools. The public school I left didn't let me take anything other than Geo while the private school I entered let me take a placement test.

mathwiz:

UCB: Slight Reach (out of state)

r u at taft or somethin, cuz i know taft uses that wierd scale. You could probably get into MIT. Harvard and Princeton are reaches kinda.

What is this Harvard Mudd? Do you mean one or the other, or both?

Whoops. I meant harvey mudd. apparently that was too late at night...

MIT - try to intern at one of their programs...then it's a match
Caltech - slight reach
CMU - match
Stanford - no idea
UC Berekely - match/slight reach (out of state)
RPI - safety
Harvard Mudd - no idea, probs slight reach
Princeton - i want to say match...get more ECs
Olin - no idea

What programs for MIT? I applied to RSI, but was rejected. I will be away this summer.

Assuming I will have no internships, would MIT be a match or reach?

MIT is always a reach. =|

well, how much of a reach?

what percentage chances are associated with safety/match/reach?

Basically that means you're in the academic caliber ballpark of people who could be accepted at MIT, which I think describes ~80% of their applicant pool. SO, your chances are slightly better than the 13% rate for this year? But yeah. treat it as a reach = the school may take you, may not.

P.S. match = the school probably will take you, but may not
safety = the school should def take you, unless something went wacko

Chances you'll be accepted:
MIT/CalTech: below 10% chance
CMU: 70%
Stanford: 20-30%
Berkeley: 30-40%
RPI: no idea
Harvard Mudd: What's Harvard Mudd?
Princeton: below 10%
Olin: What's Olin?

RPI = saftey

hell I think I am using it as a saftey...

not Harvard Mudd, harvey mudd is what i meant.

less than 10% for MIT/Caltech? Why's that?

if this person does not know olin or hmc, i would not trust their judgement. anyone who knows anything about higher education knows about olin and hmc.

No...I have no interest whatsoever in science and engineering (because I despise both) so I wouldn't know. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in higher education or I don't know anything about higher education. That's the equivalent of saying that anybody who knows about higher ed knows about Wharton.

but a less than 10% chance at MIT/Caltech would put me well below the admissions rate. Is it really that competetive?
